Another question here. My boyfriend (as you all probably know by now cuz since I have found this forum, I have posted about a billion times) is back in prison on a parole violation. His original sentence that he was on parole for was car jacking, armed robbery, and fleeing and alluding. Now, as bad as that all sounds, all these charges occured together when he walked up to a lady at a gas staion, pretended to have a gun, and asked her for her car. She gave it up, and he took off. Of course after trying to outrun the police, he gave up. (man, that sounds so bad and I can't even IMAGINE him doing something like that, but he did) Now, his parole violation I think is for leaving a parole ordered rehab center. So, my question is, when he actually goes in front of the parole board in a few weeks, are they sentencing him on what he violated his parole for? I mean, are they seeing him as a violent offender because of his past crime? Or will they see him as a guy who left a rehab. Does that make sense?

I'm not sure that I'm right here, but if he was on parole when he violated then they may put him back in for the duration of his original sentence.

I'm sorry that I can't give you anything definite. I hope things go well for him...and you!!

My husband and I have been in front of the Michigan parole board twice now, and they suck! I don't mean to discourage you but I'm just relating my experience, ok? I'm sure they will be looking at what he was sentenced for, not that he just walked away or whatever. Because both times my husband has been in front of them they go over every single thing he has ever done in his life! They go WAY back and they hold it all against him even though he has been doing good for the past three years. Seems like they are only interested in the bad things he has done.

That is what I am afraid of. My b/f's original crimes were definitely not nice, and they were mainly because of drugs to begin with. Now that they know he has a serious problem with drugs, I am afraid they will hang on to him because of what he "might do". (Which is the reason the parole office gave for locking him up to begin with) What I don't understand is this... I don't know what him talking to that guy last week that gave the recomendation is considered. I mean, I don't think that's going in front of the parole board. I talked to my b/f Saturday, and he told me that they get notified of how much time they are looking at, when the parole board decides. Apparently, alot of the guys got 6 month recomendations, and are now looking at one year. So, my question is, when he gets this piece of paper or whatever that says how much time he is looking at, when that amount of time is up, does he go back in front of the parole board? And at that time, they can choose to keep him longer? UGH. This sucks. Where is your husband if you don't mind me asking. :)

Well that I don't know because my husband hasn't been lucky enough to ever get a parole. So I only know about what happens when you go in front of the parole board to try and get one in the first place. It's very confusing! So you're saying that the time on the paper isn't the same as his max out time? My husband is from Detroit but I'll just say he's in a Level 5 prison up north and you don't ever want your guy to go there. It's a very tough and very hard place, it's awful. He was in Jackson before and it was nothing like this. The officers are a*@!#h@#! Really rude to visitors & family. He is locked up 23 out of 24 hours a day except for meals.

That is terrible. I know my b/f gets to go in the yard at 8:30 am, and then again at 12:30pm. He get's 1/2 hour each for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Is your husband way up north, like the UP? That's got to be extremely hard. How long has he been gone for if you don't mind me asking? About the paper: I guess when the parole board decides on how long they want to keep him, they will notify him. (I guess they are required by law, if they deny parole, to list the reasons why?) So, he gets this paper that tells when his release date will be. So, if they say 6 months on this paper, then when the six months is up, I THINK they can decide to keep him longer. But, of course, I am not sure about that. For some reason, the parole process is so confusing to me. Best wishes to you and your husband. I am very lucky that my b/f is not looking at too much time, but it still hurts to have them away for however long it is. I'll tell ya, I never thought I would be in this position, but then again, I always thought I would be married with kids by now! LOL Good luck to you and please keep me posted on how you are doing!
