The fee is $3.00 per visit. To be wavered if inmate is declared indigent. danielle 07-07-2002, 07:00 AM That's the way it is now in Alabama. sherri13 07-07-2002, 03:56 PM it is $10.00 in north carolina even if you are indigent! tek4real 07-14-2002, 12:30 PM Sherri13 Good ole North Carolina....I know they have more taxes than any other state, so this $10 fee don't surprise me Take care...Jerry Rosebud 08-07-2002, 09:46 PM Same for Kentucky. Now, this is really where it gets stupid. I can add Jack to my insurance at work...I am a nurse at a major hospital in Tennessee...and have great insurance...health, dental, vison, life, etc...BUT Kentucky will not let us use the policies because "he belongs to them"!!! So, when he finishes having his teeth pulled (at a cost to us of course!) we will then have to pay for his dentures. Eyeglassed...out of our pocket, when I could have his exam and a full set of glasses made each year for a $20.00 co-pay on my part!!! snowdancer 08-22-2002, 07:42 AM Hello All, There is also a copayment of $3.00 in Michigan which was inacted according the the 2001 MDOC report to cut down on the number of persons who were visiting with fake complaints/illnesses. Apparently some inmates were visiting the nurses doctors constantly and they felt this would cut down on the uneccessary foot traffic, I am just concerned though, as a nurse that there are probably folks who don't have $3.00 or anyone to send them $3.00 to go see the doctor or nurse. Oh, I wanted to mention that for emergency visits the fee is waived. Hugs, Jodi horsegal 08-31-2002, 08:35 PM What does indigent mean? I have medical insurence through my work, and when we get married I can have him added, will this help him while he's incarcerated? He already has to pay for DR. visits, and for medicine out of his commisary. I was just wondering if the insurence will make all this cheaper for him? B-Ray 08-31-2002, 09:34 PM >>>What does indigent mean?<<< lacking the necessities of life, such as food, clothing, and shelter [14th century. Via Old French from Latin indigent- , present participle stem of indigere , literally "to lack in," from egere "to need."] Now don't think I'm a smarty!! I just hi-lighted the word and clicked that little (define) book up there in my browser. (IE-6) Then copied and pasted here :-)) horsegal 09-01-2002, 12:49 AM Thank you B-Ray, you are awesome!!!:D RalphC 09-01-2002, 04:40 AM Texas has a $3.00 charge but they are fairly inconsistent about actually applying the charge. I had all my teeth pulled except three, got dentures and was never charged. Only time I ever got charged was when I was injured on the job (had a horse step on my foot) and that was either get charged the $3.00 or get written up for being careless on the job  horsegal 09-01-2002, 07:15 AM Yeah getting stepped on by a horse ain't no joke!! Trust me I know. tiamotzz 09-01-2002, 11:24 AM in doc terminology, 'indigent' refers to lacking in funds to supply basics necessities. so indigent is often determined by the status of your inmate trust account. if you don't have any money in your account and haven't had any for a while then you achieve indigent status and basic necessities that would have been paid for from your account are supplied to you by the prison. these could be things like soap, shampoo, envelopes, stamps, and basic medical care. the definiton of indigent status and it's benefits varies from state to state. jbmccormick 09-01-2002, 09:46 PM I know it is also $3.00 in Texas, however I am not certain if indigent inmates have to pay that back when they are released or not. I THINK that they do. It would then become part of their parole or something. Jim relentless 09-04-2002, 10:00 PM jb, in tx. it is my understanding from several ex-cons that you do not have to pay back anything that the state has provided during an imprisonment if you are declared ingegent relentless jbmccormick 09-05-2002, 08:53 AM Relentless, Thank you for that information. The TDCJ Website information and from discussing that with a few other people left that issue unclear. This is good to know. troysgl 10-03-2002, 06:42 PM my boyfriend is on deathrow in jackson,ga and he had to pay $5.00 for all medical care he gets. dw4me 12-28-2002, 05:51 AM In Virginia it's about $5-10 (+/-). My understanding is if inmate has insurance on outside, this charge still has to be paid. The outside insurance doesn't seem to help (at least not in Virginia). It's frustrating & confusing. Take care, stay safe, & keep the faith. |
