My best friend finally arrived at Alderson, she was so sick of county jail!! I know it will take her awhile to get settleded in, but real ancious to hear from her. If anyone has any information about these Ion sniffers and how they are used at Alderson, I would appreciate any information. I will have a five hour drive and would hate to get there and have a problem with these things. Never did or ever will do drugs, but I've read so many things can set these machines off!!
Anyone that would like to chat let me know, I'm from a little town twenty-five miles north of Charlotte,North Carolina, called Mt. Pleasant.
I just love this site, it has been very helpful so far!!:)

Hi, My best friend is supposed to go to Alderson any day now.She is v.nervous, but hopeful that it will be alot better than where she is now.[Alexandria Detention Center, just outside of Wash DC] I heard that the food is sup. to be better & the inmates can buy a tv for $200 from the comissary. I live in DC and will hopefully visit her when I can. {You do have a long drive! I used to live in Pinehurst} My friend has had a v. hard time adjusting. She is in the sober living section of A.D.C..She said that once she gets to Alderson she wants to take a tailor apprenticeship.

Can you have a TV in a federal camp? Are there tailoring classes?
Also does anyone know anything about Geigier Corrections? They are accepting federfal women but I can't find a thing about it. Thanks for any info.

My daughter is in Alderson...
I haven't heard anything about I/Ms having TVs or tailoring classes...but then the tailoring class is not something she would look for.
The inmates dont have personal tvs there..there is a tv room in each unit, and to hear the tv you have to purch a radio and headset , and batteries to enjoy it..otherwise you are looking at a screen and not hearing anything. These headphones cost abt 50-60 i belive..the food wasnt too bad when i left in Jan. Have your friend take about 500 if she can or as much as possible to get the necessary things.

EOGS...
What is the maximum you can take for "set up". I thought it was $290.00 but more would be great.
Thx

You can buy tampons in the commissary. Unless something has recently changed, they do not have a tailoring apprenticeship. They have a dog training program now. That just started. They are training the dogs for law enforcement purposes. If you have a short time (like less than 3 years) or will be going into the drug program, the likelyhood that you will be able to do a program is very slim.

Oh, and about money.....you can spend $290 per month in commissary. You have a particular day when your month starts over....This amount increases during December for the holidays. If you have restitution, they monitor the money you have and decide what you can afford based on what you get in and what your job in camp pays. So, if you have restitution, I would be very careful as to how much money you begin with. If you do not have restitution and have access to a large sum of money that you want to bring in...go for it. Some women there literally have thousands of dollars in their account that they brought with them when they first came in...knowing how much time they had to do and what they knew they would spend.
