:) Hi everyone,
My friend was just transferred to Bath and I was wondering what I am allowed to send him. Is playstation one allowed (the one that can't play dvd's)? I also know that you have one month to send everything, but it doesn't all have to be in the same box does it? I am fairly sure that his parents are sending him things as well. I know that they get a list but it is too bad that there isn't one online or something because I just don't want to get something that he won't be able to have.

Thank you!

He can have a playstation at Bath. My man is there and he has one. Send earphones for his TV as well. I got a good pair with the volume control at Curcuit City for $30, he says they work great.

Oh good, thank you so much! Also, do the games have to be new/unopened? Since the system is old I could only find old used games for it, I really hope that that won't be a problem.

You can send a Playstation One only. You can send as many used games as you want. He can only have 4 games at a time, but can exchange them for ones in storage.

You could phone the prison and talk to visiting, or ask for the Chaplin to see if someone can confirm separate packages. There should be no problem but you/or he should let them know in advance. Just to avoid any problems.

If someone is sending a TV, 13" screen, headphone jack, and don't forget to send the cable. TV's don't come with the cable - you'd be suprised how many people send a TV without it.

Popular items to send, a decent coffee mug, sunglasses, a watch. For summer - decent running shoes, t-shirts, shorts, sweat headbands, workout gloves - even if he doesn't use them he can trade them off for video games, food, clothing. (your not allowed to do this, but everybody does).

You can include some magazines in a package, you can't send them in the mail, only subscriptions. FHM - mens magazines, or whatever his interests.
Shower shoes would be nice. Another big item, is an electric fan - a must have when the weather gets warm - no inmate housing has air conditioning, plus fans drown out noises from other inmates - helps you to sleep. He'll thank you big time.

Oh wow, thank you so much you have no idea how helpful that is! That should make his stay a lot better. Also, you have to ship it right, you can't drop it off?

You can drop it off no problem, when you pull up to visiting, they'll tell you where to bring it.

Another thought is to remove any price tags, inmates are allowed $1500 of cell effects, excluding jewelery. So that way he can put a valule on t-shirts for example $1.00 for a t-shirt. Tell his parents the same thing.

Other thoughts, a decent tooth brush, or even a power one! A plastic soap dish container - very handy. You may also consider a walkman with a radio, and rechargable batteries. When summer comes, you spend alot of time outdoors, so a walkman is nice to have.

Bath is a Medium-low security institution, it is a very easy going place and because it is so close to Kingston, the staff tend to be on the ball processing paperwork. Hopefully it'll be a short stay.

I was just wondering whether if the walkman can be a cd player, an mp3 player or can only play the radio (sorry). Thank you very much!

walkman would have to be cd or cassette...no mp3 because they don't have access to the internet to process them.

You can send a am/fm radio walkman, cassette, or cd. If you send a cd player, you must include at least one cd, or they won't let him have it, unless it also has a radio.

As mentioned, it is very handy to inlude rechargable batteries, and a charger. Depending on the type of walkman, a carrying case unless it clips on.

There is currently a moratorium on personal computers for inmates, some of the longer term inmates still have them, so unless you already had a computer they won't let you have an mp3.

As far as sending CD's or cassettes, you can only send pre-recorded store bought cd's. You could send a blank cassette still in the package.

Final thought, it wouldn't be a bad idea to include an extra set of headphones for the walkman. You can only have one set, but they'll keep the other in storage, if you need it you can exchange the broken ones. It doesn't sound like much, but when you listen to your music every day, and your headset breaks, it really sucks!

I was just wondering, I bought rechargeable batteries however they came with extra batteries (eight of them) plus I bought an extra package just so he won't hopefully ever have to use his canteen money to pay for more. Is he allowed to keep them all or will they go into storage? This whole storage thing- is it hard to get your stuff out of storage or do you just go and ask?Thank you!

Eight rechargable batteries will last for years. Fortunately in Canada not many inmates do years! Every prison has it's own list of how many of whatever an inmate can have.Anything extra they will store. To retrieve anything, you simply put in a request, within afew days they will respond with an appointment to go exchange them. Any problems, you can just have your parole officer phone up for you, sometimes they'll tell you to come up if their not busy. The fact that he is in Bath is a good thing, for a meduim-low institution it's an easy/safe place to do time. Plus your one step away from camp, or a halfway house.

Yes, the actual cable itself- make sure you send that along with the TV. Yup, they have cable TV.
