View Full Version : Going from JFK to LGA
Phil in Paris 09-09-2003, 04:33 AM Hey fellow New Yorkers !! :)
Concerning the next PTO conference, it seems that the cheapest way for me to go to Orlando, would be American Airlines via New York.
The problem is I would land in JFK, and would take off to Orlando from LGA. What's the best and cheapest way to go from one airport to another ?? I never did that before. I know they are far from one another. I have 4 hours to go from JFK to LGA, do you think I'll have time for a quick stop in Manhattan ?? I love New York, and I'd love to walk a little bit there.
Also, I would love to fly from LGA to Orlando with some PTO members going to the conference. The AA flight takes off from LGA at around 6pm. :)
Thanks for your help.
Phil
roc city girl 09-09-2003, 11:13 AM Phil u dont need to catch no plane from JFK to LGA ( i dont even think u can) the best and easiest way would be to catch either the sub train or bus. i was told that they are about 45 minutes away from each other. Now, as far as sight seeing, u think u can make it in 3-4 hrs to see NYC?? well if u do, i hope u have fun!! :-) but most important stay safe!!
roc city girl 09-09-2003, 11:54 AM PHIL here is something i think may be able to help you:

flygirlaa2 09-09-2003, 02:14 PM Phil, the taxi cabs have a fixed fee they are allowed to charge from JFK to LGA. Last time I had to take one it was $12 but that was a few years ago. Not too bad. There are also plenty of moonlighters at the aiport who have personal cars and will try and solicite people to pay them to drive. Watch out for these guys, one of them let me off and as soon as I stepped out of the car, took off with my luggage, :(
MiamiChica22 09-09-2003, 02:37 PM Phil, have you looked into flying straight into Miami and getting a rental car? I'm scared for you flying into New York.
misty 09-10-2003, 09:55 AM Phil,
Best way from JFK to LGA is to take a yellow cab with a set price - trip should take 20-30 minutes. 4 hours may seem like a lot of time but given that you have to go thru customs and travel time to and from Manhattan, I don't think it's worth trying to see Manhattan - why don't you get a flight out of LGA the following day so you can spend some time seeing the sites of the city. And, I wouldn't have any fears of flying into or out of NYC - the airports are fine and the process is quite straightforward.
Phil in Paris 09-10-2003, 10:03 AM Ha ha MiamiChica !! Don't panic, I already went to NYC several times, I used to be a flight attendant !! :) So I know the city, and nothing ever happened to me. Well, some things actually happened in the Village, but who complains ?? :D
Roc city, thank you for the links. Thanks to you, I found the New York Airport Bus Service connecting both airports in 45 minutes for 11$. :) I don't really want to sightsee, just take a walk in downtown Manhattan and maybe have a beer somewhere.
Fly, thanks for telling me about those bad guys !! I'm sorry you had your luggage stolen !! I think I would hate having my "first-visit-with-Joey-outfit" stolen !!
Misty, do you set the price in advance with those yellow cabs ? Can you bargain ??
I didn't think about the customs and immigrations things. I suppose it's longer now because of 09/11, and maybe 4 hours is not that much. Well, I will come to the US for only a few days, so I won't have time to spend a night in New York. But I might consider your idea anyway, it's been a few years since I last was there.
Thanks everybody.
Phil
Ivory 09-10-2003, 10:38 PM Phil, there is a set price for yellow cabs to travel from the airport to Manhattan.
It is marked in every yellow cab.
I agree that since 9-11, 4 hours is not much time, but if you give me the time and date, I may even be able to help you out. I live a few minutes from La Guardia. Feel free to PM me if you wish.
Phil in Paris 09-10-2003, 10:43 PM Wow Ivory that's sweet of you !! You mean we'll have a drink together in Manhattan ?? That would be great !! :)
As soon as David has set the dates for the conference, I'll book my flight, and I will let you know.
Thanks for the offer :)

lisac117 09-11-2003, 09:41 AM Hi Phil!
Listen....you might want to consider this as well....fly into Newark airport. THAT is cheaper than JFK AND LAG. Not sure of the location details, but perhaps it's worth looking into. However...JFK or LAG would be nice....perhaps Ivory, you AND me can all get together for a drink! I'd make that hour and change subway ride to the airport to meet you :). That's the least I could do to repay you for being so nice when I first started out here. PM me anytime and let me know when you're coming so I can budget my money (lol).
Lisa
Phil in Paris 09-11-2003, 04:13 PM Gosh Lisa you're so cute !! I will e-mail American Airlines and ask them to land in Newark just for me !! :) Well I didn't actually choose this flight, but I chose its price !! Less than 500 € round trip airport tax included is OK. For some reasons, on my way back to Paris I will fly Orlando Miami Paris. I didn't really care for the airlines either, I just didn't want Air France since they're on strike every other week !!
Anyway, I was happy for this 4 hours stop over in NYC. And I would love to have a drink with you and Ivory somewhere in downtown Manhattan. You don't need to save money, the drinks will be on me !! :)
As soon as our Big Boss David has set a date, I'll book my flight and will post again in the New York forum.
See you
Phil
Ivory 09-11-2003, 09:59 PM Sounds good to me, Phil and Lisa....I hope we can work it out. Like I said, LGA is practically in my backyard (10 minutes away) and JFK is less than an hour away. 4 hours isn't much with airport security AND NYC traffic, but I'm sure we can work something out.
I look forward to meeting you both.
Ivory
Ivory 09-11-2003, 10:03 PM Now, if you can spend an extra day in NYC like Misty suggested, you would have more time to hang out in the city.
That would really be fun.
In any event, let us know your plans so we can arrange something.
MiamiChica22 09-12-2003, 07:57 AM Hey Phil. I see you will be down my way in Miami after all! So, are you going to let me take you for a drink in "world famous" South Beach. Lots of eye candy over there and you know what I mean! You are going to have to post your entire itinerary so we can monpolise all of your "non-Joey" time! I'm looking forward to meeting all of US! Did you tell Joey yet you were coming?
