 IS THE FOOD SERVED TO THE INMATES SUBJECTED TO SAME RULES AND REG'S AS IN THE PUBLIC,IE: FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION INSPECTED? WHO THEN DECIDES THE QUANTITIES AND TYPES OF FOOD TO SERVE? IS IT SET UP IN ANY WAY TO BE CONSIDERED AS "NUTRISHOUS? OR IS IT SOLEY UP TO THE PRISON TO SERVE WHATEVER WILL FILL THE INMATE UP , SUCH AS A HIGH STARCH DIET. ALSO ARE INMATES WITH DIABETES ALLOWED TO BE SERVED FOOD ACCORDING TO THEIR DISEASE?>>>>>>>>>GENUINE CONCERN FOR THEIR HEALTH,YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT! THANK GOD THEY CAN BUY SOME SUPPLEMENTAL ITEMS ON OCCASION. EITHER WAY THE QUESTION IS ANSWERED. :o

I have several good friends that do christian ministry to prisoners kairos is the name,I was told by her that the food that came in was stamped not for human consumption, also a former cook for the prison told that they shipped in road kill for them to eat,I also wonder if it is true and how the state could get away with that?

My husband is at Fountain and he also said the food was stamped not for human consumption. Him and a few other men say they go to bed hungery because the food is so bad. My husband said they have found chicken toes in the pattys and foreign thinks in other food. I am just speaking after my loved one I have several men I speak to. It is really bad food!!!!!!!!

My nephew said he would not eat inthe cafeteria.I just can't believe that the food that comes in is actually stamped that.and that it not for human consumption.I realize that this is a prison but it does look like they could be treated like the humans they are.people wouldn't feed their pets such food. I am new to the prison world but even if I wasn't this is totally inhumane.I thought this was what the usda was for,to have control over the foods we consume and to regulate the standards for food safety.I am going to check into this further.

my son is at bibb. he also has told me that the meat is samped "not it for human onsumpsion". how can they get away with this? well, they don't consider our loved ones humans for one thing.and they don't think that we can nor will do anything about it. comissioner allen is running around everywhere giving his speaches about how it is costing the tax payers $17,000 a year per inmate to house them and the general public thinks that this is going towards food and personal items for the inmates.they have no idea what it cost us,the families,to support our loved ones while incarerated.and what about the guys who have no one on the outside? this is the ones who are forced to prey on the ones who do.therefore, the prisons starving our inmates prommtes crime from inside the prison walls.sorry to go on and on,but this "legal theft" realy gets to me. there should be a petition sent to the governor or someone.

I have searched the internet and have found nothing really. It just really pi**es me off,I do realize they are in there for a crime, and I understand some things they do but I don't understand how the usda could not regulate the food served in prisons. To me that is a violation of their human rights. My nephew eats only from the store which costs the family money,I never realized just how much it cost someone with loved ones locked up.would a petition help would it help to get the media involved,I just don't understand it?would the staff eat such food?I am sure they are servrd a totally different menu.I am in Huntsville and I am still researching this and hopefully will come up with something soon.

i've often wanted to involve the media but they seem to work hand in hand with the jails and prisons.especialy in huntsville. "fugitive finder" hauling them in for unpaid traffic fines and theif of services charges.i think it would be great if we could get some kind of investigation started but my sons attorney says that the legislators and lawmakers with their "tough on crime" stance which assures them of getting elected for another term are a big part of the problem.and the general public just doesn't care.and my son also eats form the store and tries to feed his friend which cost me .i am on a fixed income and undergoing chemo theripy.but my son says he just cannot eat food which he cannot tell what it is supposed to be.especialy the "mystery meat.

I am so sorry you are not feeling well.you are right the fugitive finder is a waste of air time could they not find anything else to boost their ratings? My nephew is in for violation of probation, but there's the but he was the one that was involved in the drive by that killed aaron cagle.there was alot of history behind this and what led up to it that the media did not report.he is not a cold blooded killer,he has been in his share of trouble but nothing violent.so i am only afraid of what will happen when he is released and then comes up for trial. His paents are struggling to raise his 2yr old son,the mother just pops in when she decides she wants to and they are having a hard time just paying their bills let alone the attorney's bills. His mom has dropped so much weight she weighs about 87 pounds and his dad is working from can til can't.Its hard on me and my husband as we have 3 children in school we can't help much.sorry went off on a tangent its hard to talk to people that don't understand and i guess i just had a need to talk.I can't talk to his mom she stays so upset. Is there some kind of program that helps families deal with their loved ones in prison?also if you don't mind my asking what dorm is your son in?

my son is currently in the crimebill sap dorm, due to graduate in july. i certainly do understand.the legislators and d.a.'s don't understand that when a loved one is in prison ,everyone who loves that person is in prison.my son has two beautiful little girls who need their daddy.there is a forom on here for people with children in prison that you might want to check out.i also reccomend checking the"kiros outside" program. and lots and lots of prayer does'nt hurt.
