View Full Version : What is your normal length of your letters?

I was wondering how many pages does everyone tend to send to their loved ones? My normal letter ususally consists on anywhere from 8 to 12 pages long, one side only. If I don't handwrite the letters then I tend to type them which is just as long as if I did it by hand. If I hand write mine, it usually takes anywhere from 2 to 3 hours, nonstop with alot of white out to cover my mistakes and the time to look in the dictionary to find the right spelling of the word. I don't know why I have to have a dictionary to write to him because I know he doesn't take to time to make sure his letters are spelled correctly. I guess I don't want him to think I'm stupid. Now my typed letters usually takes 2 hours for the fact that I don't need the whiteout or the dictionary to help me write the perfect letter.I was also wondering how long are your letters that he sends you back? With mine, they can be from anywhere from 1 page to 4 pages front and back. :)

I use front and back of the pages and mine are 5 or 6 sheets of paper long because I know that's what will go with just one stamp. I used to have a mail scale so that meant I knew the exact postage to put on, but I don't have one now. I handwrite my letters on plain old notebook paper. I write often, so notebook paper is cheaper. When I had printing capability that I don't have right now, I often printed on both sides of the paper to save postage.

White out and a dictionary? Girl, that pen pal could care less about spelling so long as you just write him letters. LOL

Usually 4 or 5 pages (one sided) and I write them at least 5 times a week. I have to share every detail from traffic on the way to work to what's for dinner. I include all of the useless information so he can go through my day with me. His used to be about the same. They've been getting shorter lately because he is taking some classes. KellyAnn- I feel like an under achiever now!

When I can get "big daddy" to write, the letters are usually 3-5 pages in length, handwritten on one side only. I wish they were longer, but it's all I can do to get him to write so beggars can't be choosy, right? Also, he has sent me post cards that he has pulled from magazines. Short, for sure.

I usually write 3-4 pages, one sided to him 6 times a week. I also send him jokes from the internet, crossword puzzles and comics that I print from the computer for him to read when I don't write a letter that is as long.

I usually write about 2 pages, one sided. When I dont have too much to write about, I send some comics or jokes and stuff like that from the computer. Sometimes, I'll send him a seperate envelope of just that kind of stuff. I write to him everyday though. :)

I write about 5+ pgs each time on both sides of regular notebook paper. I always hand write them and am pretty good about spelling but HATE my penpanship usually :( I am often teased about how looooooong my letters are but they are always welcome :) I too have a scale to weigh them as my extras and the letter can get a little heavy at times.

I write anywhere from 5 to 15 pages, just depends on the day and what is happening in my teenager's lives at the moment. I only write on one side of the paper, so he has the other side to write on if he runs out of paper until time for the store. I write every day and so does he. It helps us both to keep our sanity!!! LOL

My letters are usually 3-5 pages handwritten on one side. There was a time when he didn't have paper and had to use the backs of my letters to write me back. Ever since then, I always leave the back side blank. I try to send jokes, or articles of interest as much as possible. If I'm really busy at work, I sometimes type them out. He doesn't enjoy that as much. Not nearly as personal. I write 5 times a week. If I'm too busy to write him, then I send a card.

My letters are usually 6 to 7 pages long. Sometimes they exceed 7 pages but no more than 8 pages. I also send cards at least once a week and some poetry. As far as the letters are concerned, I write him at least once a day. He says that he normally receives some sort of mail from me about 2-3 times a day depending on when the C.O.s distribute the mail.
I feel as if I can never write him enough!

I usually write 2-3 page letters. Of course, the last few days I've written several of these in one day. I'd save money if I put them all in the same envelope LOL! Instead, I mail each of them separate. He tells me he's the envy of every inmate there because he's the only one who gets mail every single day, and most days he gets more than one letter.

My letters vary in length, but I know it doesn't matter because he loves to get letters no matter what. when I write hardly anything he always asks if my hand broke or what? LOL I always hand write my letters because I love to write and I use both sides.

I usually type my letters on the computer (I can type MUCH faster than I can write by hand!!) My letters are anywhere from 3-20+ pages-- daily. When he writes back, it's usually on both sides of the paper, 6-7 pages... but he only writes 1-2 times a week (at most)....
I think our letters will be a LOT shorter though when we get more time to visit and can talk on the phone.... ;)

I try to type mine, after a while my hand hurts and I become lazy, so typing is a lot easier for me. I usually type like 3-6 pages and I'm always putting in a card or pictures or things I find on the internet. So usaully when I take it to the post office it's like $1-3 give or take a few. He writes me like crazy, one time I got a 15 pager! Sometimes it's just 1 though, but anything from him puts a smile on my face. I number the letters I've gotten so far, in the past 9 months I've received 60 letters!

God bless...

3-4 pages typed. I sometimes handwrite them over the weekend when I have more time but it takes me forever to write by hand so I just type them so I can say more. It doesn't matter to him as long as he hears from me.

I usually write a minimum of two pages front and back---try to write more but I also know exactly what I can send with only one stamp. Also-because I write everyday-sometimes they are much-much longer depending on how my day went. If I have had an uneventful day and do not have much to say---I send him a card.Also-try to mail him out some photos, song lyrics and other stuff I get on-line. Lately,he has been getting lots of stuff that I have gotten off this forum!!!

I write about 4-5 sheets of paper front and back. his are the same if not a lil longer. he says he writes alot cuz he writes real small and i dont so he fits more on a side. he is silly like that! I send a letter out everyday, except sunday. and he does send me 5 a week, thats one of his promises he made to me once i left the state we was both in. he likes to feel a part of my day!

My letters are 4-5 pages front and back hand written. I also include a page with a top ten list, jokes or a questionnaire designed for building intimacy. I can usually get all that in one envelope and use regular postage. He loves getting jokes and a variety of activites to do. He likes to laugh. So I make it a point to include a humorous story in every letter. I don't write on the back of them that way he can share with his "roommates".

I usually write between 6 and 15 pages either once or twice a week. I have a quite small hand-writing. One of my pages equals 2 pages in Dana's hand-writing. She usually writes between 6 and 12 pages.

My letters are at least 4 pages, handwritten, front and back. But it depends mostly on how busy I am, so it can also be longer sometimes. I prefer writing and getting them handwritten, `cus it`s just more personal and you have more possibilities to be creative in the style etc.

I usually write five or six pages front and back. I do this everyday. I like my baby to know he is thought about constantly. I usually get a letter from him everyday. His are usually longer than mine. But there might be a day here and there that I don't get mail.

Average....4 pages typed, one side. When I hand-write letters, it's usually 9-12 pages. I have a habit of going on and on. I'm like most....I type WAY faster than I write, and I can print as much as I want at work...(I have a great boss).

He wrote me back, nearly daily....for a long time. His letters were 3-5 pages...hand written. He got to where he wrote on the back, but turned it upside down or some goofy way....those are hard as heck to read....LOL....I, of course, have saved them all. In 11 months...he's written me nearly 500 pages. I would venture to guess, I've sent him close to 2,000 pages. I started numbering the things at the first of March, and since then, I've sent him 135 letters~4-8 pages each. I've sent articles, puzzles, legal papers, PTO posts, pictures, erotic stories, YOU NAME IT!!!!

We've slacked off since he moved to Mineral Wells...I see him every weekend, and he calls me on Wednesday nites....it's gotten me used to NOT writing...so I doubt we will continue the practice once he's home. I used to write him all the time on AOL....even before he was arreseted. He called those "kath novels". I will probably continue to do that!

Thanks everyone, for responding I just wanted to make sure that I am sending enough pages of letter to Bo without thinking I was cheating him out. I know how important letters are to any inmate and I wanted to make sure that I made him feel special. Thanks again!

My letters are usually really long. I "blabber" alot... and get into detail about everything... He likes it. :)
His letters range but usually about 5 pages of the back and front of the prison yellow paper lol! So 10... The other day I got (2) 15 page letters on the same day... Its his mini-novels... Took me 3 sittings to read them both all the way through.

My letters are usually between 10-14 pages handwritten on one side. I'm just a very talkative person. I can fill us a whole page about me having a bad hair day or somebody that cut me off in traffic. I have even told him about my cramps and PMS :haha: :haha: I really don't think he cares what I write about as long as he is getting a letter.

My letters vary from 2-9 pages. Front and back. Depends whats going on. His are anywhere from 2-4 pages. I love getting long letters from him, and it seems, the more i wrote, the more i get back. If mine in 2 pages, i get about a page back. :) He has to have something to write to. It isnt like they do a whole lot in there. I tell him details everyday. I send him mail 2-3 times a week. I sit down everyday and write though. That way he can experience my days with me.

I write every day about 4-6 typed pages. My b/f loves Nascar, so I download the news from the Nascar website and send it to him after each race. I am also in a football pool, so I send him the pool and let him pick the winners for me. He has written 6-8 handwritten pages every day since he went in. That was his promise. I snd jokes and other funny stuff too. I tried sending wallpaper samples the other day but they were sent back labeled "contraband". :)

Most of my letters are 4-5 pages on a good day. On a bad day, it could be as long as 7. But I also write 4 times a week because it takes so long for him to get my letters even though I get his letters in 3 days. There was one time I wrote only 2 pages and my fiancee panicked!! hahaha. He thought something was wrong or that something else was keeping my attention....Yea, I spoiled him...Now he knows that he get what he get and dont have a fit.

Ah - the enthusiasm of love! I remember writing every day. I remember writing 5 to 10 page letters. I remember receiving letters. I remember him painting me pictures and sending me wood carvings. Now it's been 21 years since he got locked up. The prison no longer allows wood carving or paintings. I write a page every couple weeks. He writes a paragraph on holidays and birthdays. Every once in awhile we surprise each other with a card or a poem or I send him a book. I frequently send him articles on fed. prison issues I think he and others will want to know. But he pays for the phone calls and we talk several times a week and now he's in the same state so we can visit more often. We're just an 'ol married couple I guess - taking each other for granted. But it's a sweet kind of "for granted." Zelda P.S. I can hear you all saying it - "Oh that would never be me!" LOL!

I normally write about 8-10 pages. But, sometimes it can get up to even 20 pages - however, I do use both sides of the paper.
Pretty much all the time I write them myself. I type them only when I have to get something out to him immediately and I'll just type it out quickly at work and send it off that afternoon. He hates those ones though hahaha.. I can understand though. There so generic looking. He likes it when I write them because they are more personal - feel me?

I try to write at least twice a week - unfortunately my days are crazy and I cannot write every day like some of you, but when I can.. I do! :)

I write every day, I mail them three times a week. He does the same. We usually run between 8 and 20 pages. (Both sides of a page so this is about 5 to 10 sheets of 8x11 paper.
When I first wrote to him, I was thinking I was out of my mind to write to someone in a facility that I didn't know. To 'keep a distance' and stay impersonal, I typed every letter for the first 5 or 6 months. haha
When I became more sure of who he was I finally, 'for Christmas' sent him my first hand written letter. You would have thought, from his reaction, that I had sent him a million bucks!! haha sigh needless to say, I hand write all my letters to my (now) new husband!

I usually write 3-5 pages everyday. Sometimes I will send a card, or just send a blank card with a kiss in it. He said to me " You have spoken more in the last week than you have in the last six months!" He has only been in the county jail a week. His preliminary is on October 17,2003

Write every day at least once and sometimes as many as 3 times sometimes as few as 3 pages one-sided but as many as 11. Usually typed. I like formatting the pages all different with different colors and fonts. Scan in photos. He can only have 10 pictures at a time but I've sent probably 100 or so that were scanned in and he can keep all those. I take lots of day in the life pictures and send those. He writes me usually 4-5 days a week. He only gets mail from me on M, W, TH & F so that's usually when he writes. Usually I get 5-6 pages back and front in TINY writing unless he's mad at me and then his writing gets HUGE! :D Writing every night allows us to spend time "together" every day. It's hard to take someone for granted when you dedicate 2-3 hours a night solely to that person - but then again, I don't have kids. :haha:

It varies. Typically between 4-7 handwritten pages. Someimes less sometimes more. I write everyday and often more than once a day. He says that the guys in his tank all know that he will get mail from me. They read a long sometimes. I also send a "care package" (his name for it) every Tuesday. This is a 9X12 envelope full of stuff like crosswords, puzzles from puzzlemaker, pictures of things I want drawn on boards for my wall, comics, jokes, dumbest criminal things, quizzes, etc. I have even sent several copies of the same puzzles and stuff so that he can give some away! He loves it that theses guys are jelous he says they always tell hm that eventually I will quit writing or I will chat on him or leave him. But I think he knows that'll never happen, they are just pessimistic or jealous.
Oh yeah.. he writes about 4-5 times a week and usually 3 pages and cards.

I also try to send 2-3 cards a week just so he knows i'm thinking about him. And when I am feeling lazy (I admit it, I do !!!) I'll send a few extra cards to make up for not writing a letter :) I like to send his letters on purple and gold paper during football season(Viking colors~ he likes the Broncos ~ it's a running joke with us ~) other wise I use notebook paper or stationary whichever is handy. I write Justin about 10 pages. I make sure that he gets a letter everyday Mon-Fri. Sometimes, he gets 2 letters in one day. It just depends on my day. He's gotten a letter everyday for the last 1 1/2yrs. I used to get a letter a week from him, but for the last few months the prison has been messin w/ his stuff so I'm not gettin his mail, but he's still gettin mine. Thank Goodness. We talk at least 2 times a day, so it's alright. It could be worse. I love the mess out of him!!

We each write to one another every day and they are always 12 pages long each day. We have done that for the past 7 years he has been gone and I have each and everyone. He keeps the ones I write as well, until he has too many and has to send some home, and then I keep those for him too, serperate from mine so he will always have them.

My letters are normally like 6 or seven pages front and back. I hand write all of mine because Josh doesnt like me to type then he says that its not as personal as when I hand write them. But when I get josh's letters back they are anywhere between 8 to 10 pages front & back. Dont ask me what all we have to say that takes that much paper and ink because I really don't know. but all of our letters are long. Merry Christmas!!

My Ex has been in the county jail for about 5 months and is just now getting moved to a prison. We split up about a year ago. I only write him once about every 2 weeks. The letters are usually about 5 pages 1 sided. We have a son and I write to give him updates. He writes back and sends poems for his son. His brothers write him too,but I don't think he gets alot of mail.

I write him a little every day and send a letter every other day that's 5-8 pages written on the front side only. I've sent a couple of 10-15 page letters when I've hadtoo much on my mind. He writes a little to every day to me too. Usually his letters are 4-5 pages, just on the front. Sometimes I get longer letters, 7 or 8 pages. We both love to draw so we draw each other pictures. I've sent him puzzles, cartoon characters to draw, and packs of paper since he is still in county waiting to go to prison.

Mine in the beginning were no less than 6 pages front and back [I tried to save on trees :D] but those were just my Monday to Thursday letters - my weekenders - Fri/Sat/Sun were never any less than 12 pages and I've had them go up to 22 pages. Up until a few weeks ago I was down to just 2 or 3 pages. He's coming home so I tried to not inundate him with too much chatter - just getting the basics to him. When he would get my "novels" as he called them - it would take him several days to read them.

^^ Wow, that's a lot of writing! :) The longest letter I've ever written was 22 pages... These days, I write him every other day, and depending on how I'm feeling, I'll write him 3 to 5 page letters, or less sometimes, as long as I write and mail 'em out he's happy that he's getting letters

I usually write about 5-6 letters double sided. I write at least twice a wk, and send him lyrics, and drawings on top of that. I sometimes repeat myself, but just can't help telling him how much I luv him, and miss him. He usually writes to me 3-4 pages double sided as well. We always have a lot to say, he tells me about all sorts of stuff that goes on in there, and I about work, and college.

I WRITE ANYWHERE BETWEEN 4-5 PAGES 2-4 TIMES A WEEK. THE LEGNTH REALLY DEPENDS ON WHAT IM WRITING HIM ABOUT, BUT I LIKE TO TRY TO FILL HIM IN ON AS MUCH AS I CAN SO THAT HE KNOWS PRETTY MUCH WHAT'S GOING ON IN MY LIFE. I WRITE HIM ABOUT NAYTHING UNDER THE SUN, AND THE LETTERS WE WRITE MAKE OUR RELATIONSHIP SO MUCH STRONGER..... OOOOH I MISS MY BABY!!!!!!!!!!

I can't spell to save my life. :D His letters on the other hand  are maybe 2 1/2 pages front and back. He don't like to write. :blah: whatever! :blah: He's a meanie

My letters to Jeremy are anywhere from 8-13 pages. He is so easy for me to write to I tend to just ramble, but he said he loves it as he has lots of time on his hands. But his letters to me are always at least 9 pages.
