My uncle is in the facility and he is in the dorm with a man whom tonight was badly badly injured. I don't know his first name but I think his last name is Raney. They called his wife and informed her that he was in the infirmary because he "fell on the yard". HE DID NOT FALL ON THE YARD!
He was smoking a cigarette and got beat up by a guard and then handcuffed and then 6 more guards jumped in and they all beat him pretty badly. My uncle said that the top of his skull was almost taken off. They took him in to have stitches put in all the way around his head... This is NOT right. That man is the 4th one this month! These men...they're someone's father..someone's son. Someone's HUSBAND and they're someone that has a family out there that's just waiting on them to come home... What if they don't? What if these guards get in their head that they can do whatever the fuck they want to? They can't! I need to know if people in this forum have family in there who've been hurt, supposedly on the yard. Or on any other bullshit way.. I need to know. We have to help these men!

This is awful and should never happen. There is an investigation unit that is called in when stuff like this happens to question the inmate and he needs to tell them just what happened and let them know who all witnessed what happened. I forget what they are called but they will question him. I would also contact the prison commissioner
(334) 353-3883
Fax (334) 353-3967
rallen@doc.state.al.us
and there is a group called the Southern Center for Human Rights, http://www.schr.org/index.html, They handle cases like this an investigate abuse. These officers don't need to get away with that.
Another group you could contact:
Equal Justice Initiative of Alabama
122 Commerce Street
Montgomery, AL 36104

334-269-1803 (phone)
334-269-1806 (fax)

contact_us@eji.org (contact_us@eji.org)
Hope this helps, but most of all do something don't let these officers get away with this because they can have criminal charges pressed on them as well for treating inmates this way. Good Luck!

My ex boyfriend was at ventress for a year and a half and he said the guards there were like that. He said he saw lots of men actually slapped by officers for making comments the guards didnt like. Someone really needs to investigate ventress
