I was sitting here wondering.. so i figured i'd post and just ask.:)
Has anyones Loved one that was ON the MSNBC Lock Up show gotten any "fan mail" since it aired?
I know Mine has... and he says some of the other guys there has gotten some fan letters also. just wondered what yall thought about it?
also.. is there anyone ON here, that after seeing the show Wrote a letter to a inmate they saw on the show?
what grabed you to want to write?
why did you pick the certain perosn that you did?
did they write back?
I found it odd that out of all the letters that mine had received none were from anyone in Alabama...
how many letters did they get?
what was the reason for the person writting?
Did your loved one write them back?
how do you feel about it all?
Mine has gotten a few letters.. 3 were from college students.. one was from a girl thats going through a rough time.. even got one from a guy( said he had a myspace account and talked about the prison system on there) but i couldn't find him on there<shrug>
He has written most back...I don't mind that he writes...It's not like he is hiden anything from me.. he shares the letters with me.
i did however( i have to admit) get a little well jealous when this one girl wrote..then wrote again sending "body shot" photos... wanten to visit??? sayin how good lookin he was... yada yada yada... untill.. i smiled.. because i KNOW he is good looking.. LOL why wouldn't she want him HAHAHAH.... aint no chance in hell she'll get him tho.. nor visit<smile>
and thats what she got told also.... that he's Happy. he he he <smile>
anyhow.. i'll stop ramblen..

So, Bobby got "fan mail" huh? WOW! ;) He must have been flattered! Must have given his ego a boost, to know that there are women out there lusting after him.:) Too bad he's already got a girl! Just consider it a compliment that other women find him attractive.

He IS cute(smiles). I don't know how I would feel about Steven getting "fan mail" from women. I DEFINITELY wouldn't like it if they sent him uh... provocative photos! The NERVE! LOL

I'd make him return it! Yes, I am a b----! LOL I will have to ask him in my next letter about that. As far as I know he hasn't, and he best not be keepin it from me! LOL NO, just kiidding. He HAS a close female friend that he cares for very much. It doesn't bother me. As long as it's just friendship, and he lets e'm know right off the bat that he has a girlfriend, then it's all good!

I'm curious. Did Bobby write his male "admirer" back? I know most men in prison prefer to write to women, since they are around men 24/7 and I find thAT most female inmates prefer the opposite sex as well, which is understandable. So, just wondering? I will check with Steven on this, and get back to you!

Here's a thought. I wonder if Warden Culliver got any hate mail? LOL Jerk!

Hey Lisa...
Thank you for the compliment... and YES he is a "hottie" huh? <giggle>
like i said above... i have read the letters that have been sent to him... i wouldn't say they are Lusting over him.. ( ONE is) LMAO but not all.... one of the girls.. just seems ike a nice person <shrug>
He and i have talked about this.. yes of course it made him feel "good" that someone would write... would pick him out of all the people that they did show..and write.. but also.. we wondered WHY.. ya know? like.. what did he say... or what caused them to see this.. remember his name( or whom evers name) go to the trouble to find out how to write them.. get the address and all.. and write. ya know? as far you being a Big B.. you'd make him return it.. LMDAO thats what i had first told him to do hahahah.. but... for real... it makes you think.. what was she thinking.. to not know him.. and send THAT kind of photo<shrug>
Did he write the Guy back? Thats why i went on MYSPACE to look for him.. he said he wrote on thre about the prison system.. so he asked me to check to see what i could find.. that if he was trying ot keep Kids OUT of prison he'd write him back and help in any way... but i couldn't find anything<shrug> but he did give the letter to someone that did write him back...
I dunno..i wonder if the Warden got any mail.... Could have gotten a "way to go man" kind of letter, from the way "some" people think...
who knows.

Interesting thread, we watched an episode of Lock Up and my family and I mentioned how handsome this one guy was and wondered if the show caused them to get any mail.

My friend was not on the show but does get a fair amount of fan mail most of them do not write very long when they find out he doesnt talk non stop about crimes.

I did consider writing Steven Parker to ask his opinion on certain issues but I decided against it.

That is unfortunate that so many people are only interested in learning more about the crime, then about the actual person. They forget that inmates are PEOPLE too, with feelings, not novelty toys!

So, you thought about writing to Steven Parker huh? Hmmm. What exactly did you want to ask him? Maybe I can help. I'm his girl(smiles). He is not AT ALL like that in real life. He just feels like he has to maintain this "tough guy" image, but deep down inside he's got a good heart. Steven is the most loving, compassionate, understanding and caring man in the entire world! And quite the romantic too(smiles). Bet you never would have known that, by watching that interview huh? What was your impression of him? Just curious!

We both thought that the producer made him look bad. She was ONLY interested in hearing about his involvement with the AB, and of course neglected to mention that inmates have NO choice but to join a gang, if they want to survive in that environment. He is actually a very open-minded, tolerant person believe it or not! Much more liberal than he is conservative, but don't tell his friends in the AB I said that! ;) If he were able, he'd be voting for Hillary Rodham Clinton in the next election(gasp!). I'm a die hard liberable and a radical feminist, and he fell in love with ME so that's gotta count for somthin!:)

When my husband was in county jail awaiting trial and it was high profile he got letters from whackos, one wanted to know if he could get a hold of photos of the dead victim, one woman he never meant sent a pictures of a kid and told him it was his child. He didn't write back to any, he had lots of religious people try to save him, some marriage proposals. No one wanted to know the real story though.

My guy got mail from 2 chics saying they saw him on locked up...he's only in it for 2 seconds though! At first I was okay with his new friends but this week I finally had enough and threw a fit.

I was curious about his opinion on immigration and certain border issues.
Its hard to form a solid opinion on somebody based off of one of these shows.Thats do to the way they are edited. When someones views are not popular they often go out of their way to make that person look like an ass.

Thats so true.. ya know.. SO much was edited out of those shows.
Bobby was taped different days.. and even out of both days.. they still failed to put on thre all that he loved.. they asked about his family and all.. but NEVER put a word of that on the show.
only the parts where he was "fired" up LOL

I don't think that a well-educated, intelligent person would even ATTEMPT to form an opinion about someone, based on a heavily edited five or ten minute clip from an interview, that probably lasted for a minimum of an hour! It is CLEAR to me that the producer wanted to make the inmates look as unsympathetic and inhuman as possible!

For example, Michelle pointed out that her loved one spoke of how much his family meant to them, yet that was edited out! Why? Because it would have shown the viewer a side of him, that the producer was intent on concealing. The side of him that is endearing and sympathetic. His "human" side. Then he wouldn't be so "scary" anymore. I saw through all the bull----, but unfortunately I'm sure there were a lot of people who didn't. Let's face it. The main purpose of the show is to ENTERTAIN the masses, not educate and inform. Sad, but true. Educational is BORING! Listening to stories about inmates who have turned their lives around for the better, is not as exciting as strories of cold-blooded, unrepentant killer's who we should loathe and fear.

I contemplated(and am STILL contemplating) whether or not I should write the producer a letter, and give her a piece of my mind! What do you all think? It would probably fall on deaf ears, but it would make me feel better! LOL I guess we are all hypocrites though, because we all enjoy the show! ;) Ha ha. But at least we are smart enough to be able to see it for what it REALLY is. ENTERTAINMENT!

In the AB's defence. I am NOT at all racist, nor do I agree with their philosophy/beliefs. HOWEVER, it is not uncommon for inmates to group according to race, in prison. The blacks, the hispanics, the asians and so on all have their own gangs, and are equally suspicious of those that do not belong to their group. Also, a lot of the men in the AB join for reasons OTHER than sharing similar views. Joining a gang in prison is first and foremost about survival. Perhaps if the Warden and prison staff would DO their damn jobs, the inmates wouldn't have to join a gang in order to feel safe!

Smelly, if you would like you could email whatever questions you have for Steven to me at bleedingheart@cogeco.ca and I will forward them to him. When he responds, I will pass along his answer to you via email. Let me know what you think okay? I am sure that he would be more than happy to answer your questions. :) He and I have never discussed the immigration issue, but I could bring it up in conversation at some point in the future. It would certainly be an interesting topic to discuss.

My sweetie was featured on "Lock-Up: Inside Holman" and his name was Steven Parker. I think he is the sexiest man on planet earth, but then I am biased! ;) LOL Wanna know somethin girl? I was ABSOLUTELY ASTOUNDED when I found myself falling in love with a leader in the AB gang! I am THE most liberal, tolerant, accepting person you would EVER want to meet, and am appalled by prejudice in ANY and ALL forms(racism, homophobia, sexism and so on). So, it came as quite a shock to not only ME, but to those closest to me as well! Lisa in love with a man in the AB? WOW! who woulda thunk it?? LOL :D

I was a little irritated because they showed all of the Lockup shows on Sunday, and for some reason, when the TV guide channel said they were showing the Holman one, they actually showed some other prison, and I completely missed it! Do you know if there is some way to watch it on the internet?

yes i know... i was going to tape the HOLMAN show on SUnday for his Sister in law and nephews to have.. but when it came on... it wasn't holman (eyeroll) just my luck LOL
i haven't seen anything on the net where you can watch it... i'd just surf the MSNBC channel and see when it is next to air.
They show the lock up shows a good bit.... not so much HOlman though for some reason... but everytime i watch it.. and see him walking down the hall.. and the narraitor talking in the back ground saying.. Bobby Gilbert is Holmans most notorious inmate.. yada yada yada.. i have to laugh... i wrote word for word what they DID say on there when he was on the show and sent it to him... he got a kick out of it too.. so now it's a joke with us.. we ALWAYS kid around with each other.. and he'll say.. oh.. you better watch it.. you know i'm the most notorious sumbit*h in Holman BAHAHAHAHA... if the world only knew<smile>
he is just heavenly

That's so funny about Bobby. Its good that he has a sense of humor and doesn't get bent out of shape when people say dumb stuff like that. Its just ridiculous that the media get a hold of a few words from the guys or hears a few random rumors, and then they totally sensationalize everything and make it look so much worse than it really is. My guy doesn't get riled up about it, but it makes ME angry because I know who he is and that he's not some monster! I dunno. Our relationship is kinda new, so maybe over time I'll get used to it, but damn, its hard! I'm not quite at the point where I can laugh about it yet. Still, I'm DYING to see that show because I know he's not featured, but I would sit through 10 hours of bullsh1t just to see the back of his head for a split second. :D I'm such a hopeless loser!!! hahahaha!

LOL, yeah we are so excited that's why we are getting it booked so soon! I'll be out there for two weeks! me and my mate have just always had a thing for alabama! hope I don't get out there and be like oh, not what I thought it was gonna be but I really doubt that would happen! I told bryan I was going and he asked if I would go and see him so maybe that's on the cards and he also said for me to go and meet his family in huntsville, but other than that we don't know anyone! lol! you know of the shearton hotel? that's where we are staying and we fly out the 3rd of july so if you are about i'm sure you will be able to find us in a bar and you wont be able to miss me as I'm sure I will stand out like a sore thumb! esp with my thick cockney accent lol!

Sine Alabama is "home" for me, born and raised... I'm comfy here, i like it, but it is totaly "plain" if you don't mind me asking what ARE you comen out here to do? B'ham is a pretty big city * To Me* but compared to other large city's across the nation.. theres still not much to it.. and Huntsville isn't the "nite life capital" lol There are some pretty cool bars in B'ham though...I'm not the biggest "club goer" so i dont know much about them myself...but i can tell you about the more relaxen side( Guntersville*gunersville Lake*... has the lake, so if you love campin, fishen, hiken, golfen, that sort of stuff.. it's the place to stay)
is your friends in Holman? if so.. and your planing on gouing that way.. then of course the beach isnt far from there, Mobile, or even FL... and they would have more of a nite life! Meeting his famly sounds like fun!! do they know of you? I dont know much about the hotels but.. im guessin if its the shearton.. it'll be one of the nicer ones<smile> When it gets closer to time.. who knows, maybe we might talk of going out, or something!
have a great day!!

yeah, the beach is a long drive.. takes me 5 hours to get to holman from where i love... then you have to drive a lil farther to get to the beach.
the last place we went, when we went out was the Strip Club, its in B'ham.. o it was SO much fun!! I'm sure you and your friend will have a GREAT time! we will have to holler at each otehr when time gets closer!
