View Full Version : 5 Years free yesterday!
ladysoldier 02-19-2007, 06:33 PM :D I just had my 5 year out of prison anniversary yesterday and am reallll proud of myself.
I am the only female in Iowa that has gotten out in since 1995 that has been out this long without reentering the prison/or getting revoked on paper/or getting 'back' on paper...
that sure is a good feeling!

Awesome news!!!! CONGRATS! I'm curious too on why so many are having to go back??? Are they re-offending or is it a violation of parole for being late to a parole meeting or not having a job etc...?

ladysoldier 02-21-2007, 09:03 PM Alot go back due to violations more than anything. Mainly due to drug addictions. Causes alot of dirty UA's and losing jobs.

AriesMom 02-27-2007, 08:09 AM Lady, that is wonderful news!! You should be very proud of your accomplishment on your 5 year anniversary. Congratulations. Just curious, to what do you attribute your success when so many others failed? Would love it if you could share with us your own personal reasons for success. You never know who you may inspire.
ladysoldier 02-27-2007, 05:57 PM Wow..I could say alot here...
-That I don't use drugs. THAT IS A MAJOR way to stay out of trouble. I haven't seen one person use drugs or/and sell drugs that don't end up in trouble...it'll happen SOMEDAY.
-I would say I learned how to work hard in the joint and I use that same work ethic out here. I don't complain about hardly anything. When you only made 20 cents a DAY..you don't complain about what you make out here. So keeping a job=staying out of prison, too.
-I am thankful for the small stuff out here others take for granted. Such as: grocery shopping, I can eat when and what I want. Shopping..buying and wearing what I want. Love to 'smell' good things finally. Like that ability to smell beautiful things. THE COMPUTER!!! Internet wasn't out before I got locked up and it's the best invention..I swear! A whole bunch of things....running outside if its raining (can't run in prison yard)..being out in the dark NOT WHILE BEING ESCORTED)..um...doing my hair, there is ALOT of things I love so much out here that I wouldn't dream of losing it all again so that all helps me stay out!!

Ryde own You have what it takes to make it. You believe in your self. I wish you the best life has to offer.
AriesMom 02-27-2007, 09:42 PM Thanks for sharing your story Lady. My daughter will have about the same time as you and I can only hope that she can stay clean to enjoy the things she is missing out on. I'm sure it wasn't an easy ride for you but very glad you can now appreciate the things most of us take for granted. Best of luck towards your future and I am going to print out your response and send it to my daughter. Many thanks.
LeaAnn 02-28-2007, 09:44 AM Congrats!
PattiD1157 02-28-2007, 11:44 AM It's always so wonderful to hear a sucess story!!! Congratulations and keep up what you are doing....you certainly are doing it right!! Nothing better than being able to open and close your own doors, do what you want when you want and actually take a shower without a bunch of other people. So many things are taken for granted until they are gone. You are one that knows just how wonderful freedom is. Enjoy and keep up the good job!! Once again....CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

van'sgirl 02-28-2007, 11:57 AM That is so wonderful to hear!!!
Keep us the great progress. You have come so far and you are "setting records". Do this not only for you and your family but for other women in your state. Make a good example out of yourself. The DOC and other gov. agencies love to make bad examples out of people. You should put something in your local paper or something.
Congratulations.!!!!
