View Full Version : Arkansas 70 Percent Rule
cfareyx3 02-18-2007, 07:41 PM THE ARKANSAS 70 PERCENT RULE
FOR CLASS Y FELONS, INCLUDING DRUG OFFENDERS
I am looking for anyone who has loved ones sentenced under the
Arkansas 70 percent rule. I would like to form a petition/ letter to
Arkansas officials or perhaps a Bill to ERADICATE the 70 percent rule,
making the revisions retroactive to all inmates who have been sentenced
under this law.
Please contact me if you are interested in helping or if you may have useful information or if you would like more info.
Thank you

ittybittykitty 02-18-2007, 11:11 PM My BF is sentenced under the 70 0/0 and I will help you anyway I can on this......I tried in Dec writing 5 state reps about my feelings on the 70 0/0 law and other CAUSES of ADC overcrowding but ony 2 even replyed ...one to say contact someone else in your area and the other to tell me all about the bill HE was presenting.......SO I got no where. If you know what to do I will help.I will pm you with my email address....Kitty
ittybittykitty 02-19-2007, 01:03 PM OK People here is our chance to have someone interested in trying to make changes that effect our loved ones.Is your loved one sentenced at the 70 0/0 ? Would you sign the petition?Would you sign it even if your loved one was not sentenced at the 70 0/0 to help another famiily?I am hoping from my pming with cfareyx3 that she will make this not just drug offenders but across the board.....for all offenders. Give us some input here are you willing to get involved????? Do you know family and friends who would sign for your loved one???This year's legislation we might not make it if we do not put a huge rush on this....then we are looking at two more years to try again.
JimmysBabyGirl 02-19-2007, 09:12 PM Count me in, I'll do whatever I can. We all should. Even if this issue doesn't effect your loved one the next one might. We have to be their voices. My husband has not been in long, but I've already learned that they are not heard on the inside. If we don't speak up, who will?? Keep me posted and let me know what I can do!!! :)
cessnadriver 02-19-2007, 09:31 PM Count me in. My sweetie is not a 70%'er but we all have to help each other. This is the same reason we should all fight for the LWOP'ers and try to get HB1230 stopped.
Once the LWOP'ers are screwed it won't take long before they do it to everyone. They went from 2 years to 4 years and now it will be 6 years for LWOP and it won't be long until it is 6 for everyone.
OOPS! This thread is about 70%'ers. Didn't mean to hijack the thread with another issue.
Count me in for the petition.

pat0912 02-20-2007, 12:01 AM Count me in too. My son is sentenced under the 70% rule. But I would do what I could do even if he wasn't. Let me know, I have a big family that everyone would be willing to sign.
ittybittykitty 02-20-2007, 09:25 AM Ok Cfarey we have some people ready to help what do you need for us to do ????? And I am sure there will be others........
silverstar 02-23-2007, 11:07 PM count me in too. let me know what i can do to help
I would love to work with all on this, even though the legislature will be out of town in a few months, they are still there doing committe work. My point being that this is something that can be introduced and scheduled for discussion. The Arkansas sentencing commission has made some recommendations concering this issue, in that they are recommending the ability for some inmates to be transfered to Community Corrections earlier to recieve drug tx. etc. I will look up that link and post it for all to read. This will not help my loved one, but I agree when we work to help ALL inmates then it filters down to all of us.
www.arkansas.gov/asc/2002_biennial.pdf This is the link to the report I was talking about by the AR. Sentencing Commission.
ittybittykitty 02-26-2007, 10:12 PM Thanks Pods!!!! Kitty
txspitfire 02-28-2007, 08:20 AM I'm in with you. Keep us updated on what we can do to help.
ittybittykitty 03-15-2007, 12:18 PM I suggest we all write to several Representatives and Senators...I have since Dec. tho I am not getting much response back, I am getting the word out to them that we are all working together to see some changes. I mentioned in my last letters to two Senators Laverty and Faris that since I began writing the letters I have joined forces with several others including Pods with CURE and Carmen with Justice4inmates and several others who have loved ones incarcerated in the ADC.They can sweep one of us under the rug and forget us but not all of us...to big a bump left to fall over:)The way I see it we need everyone who wants changes to begin putting some things in write and sending them out.We may have missed this session with the Legislation but lets getting started on something in the future...they do call special sessions. If you want a copy of my letters to use for a guideline I will be glad to email you one,Pm me and I will send it to you.Kitty
Good job! You are so right, one of us can be ignored but it is much harder to ignore many.
missmyson2 04-06-2007, 08:43 PM Count me in, . . .will do everything possible.
msfrog 04-07-2007, 05:11 PM Count me in! I will do whatever I need to do.
Shane's_Baby 05-13-2007, 11:21 PM Can anyone tell me when the 70% rule is used? Or is it a manditory 70% on all sentences?
Someone tols me that my boyfriend would only have to do 2 months and 11 days per each year sentenced. (Which we hope that he just gets county time or probation.)
Is that a lie?
ericsgrl 05-18-2007, 12:12 PM Kitty I just sent you a pm and i'm in just let me know what to do.
return2sender 06-28-2007, 10:23 PM I just joined this forum, my son will be sentenced to the 70 Percent rule. He will go in September now, he is in Pulaski County until then.
Tell me what to do and I will help! Do you have some points to put into the letters? Overcrowding I got. Prison will not help drug addicts, that is one of my big things.
ittybittykitty 06-28-2007, 11:42 PM Shane's baby the 70 0/0 is for violent offenders, not all inmates have to serve the 70 0/0.
I do not know the answer to your other question.
Ericgrl I just realzed I don't think I ever sent you the stuff I said I would....Sorry :) I will try to get that done but feel free to remind me,if I forget again:)
return2sender We really do need to get back on this project:) I was all fired up last fall but the winds got knocked out of my sails when I sent out a bunch of letters to my local State Reps and did not get any responses......anyway I will try to get myself back on track and I would be happy to help you with a letter...I have the ones I sent that you could use for a guideline if you'd like just get me a good email address....pm it to me.And I will try to remember to get it to you...but I am forgetful sometimes....sorry again Ericgrl :) I am not sure what happened to Carmen but I should try to get back with her on her ideas about this.Kitty
txspitfire 07-05-2007, 08:33 AM Feel free to contact me. I would be glad to help. I may have some more ladies that would get involved also.
