Does anyone know the regulations for depositing money into our loved ones accounts? I understood that an inmate is allowed to have $500.00 deposited into their account in a span of 1 year. However, I just put $175.00 in for a Christmas "basket", which now takes my deposit to over the $500.00. If I send another money order will he have access to that money or does he have to wait until his year is up? (his year is up in March)

Inmates have a savings account, a current account, and a canteen account.

Savings must maintain a balance of $80.00, anything above that amount can be transferred to the current account. (max of $500.00).

When you send money to the institution for an inmate, it is placed in his savings account. Inmates are allowed to transfer money from their savings account to their current account a maximum of 4 times in a year, with a grand total of $500.00.

However at Christmas, they are allowed an additional transfer of money to be used for the purchase of special order items on the Christmas list, each institution sets a dollar limit on what can be purchased. Whatever the maximum amount is, is what the inmate has access to.

This is over and above the 4 allowed transfers, and above the $500.00 limit. As for depositing money, you can deposit any amount of money you want, it's just the inmate is limited to what he can spend.

Just a note; if their was an educational course, or something that could be purchased to assist an inmate in his rehabilitation, the head of the institution can approve any amount of spending from the inmates savings account.
