View Full Version : Using this porch to vent about being sick! :)
ToughTimes 01-31-2007, 05:06 PM Please excuse me, I have to vent. I'm so depressed about being sick, and I just need to get it out. This winter, I have been sick with a cold FIVE times already. I know that it is because of lack of sleep and such a busy schedule (I work a full time job, a part time job, and go to college - plus I live 2 hours away from my boyfriend and that takes time, too). So, I'm going on day 14 of this cold, which I thought was getting better. But then I was at work on Sunday night and started feeling very light-headed and dizzy, and REALLY hot. People said that I was as pale as a ghost, and even my lips were white. So I left work early, and since then I have been in bed. I got the flu or something, and I was on the toliet every 20 minutes. That has seemed to get better in the last day, thankfully. Last night I tried to take a shower and pretty much blacked out - saw stars and had to get out with soap and conditioner still all over. Now that the stuff requiring me to live on the toliet is finally going away, my cough is coming back full force. I am literally coughing constantly. Or at least every 5-10 seconds. I have taken so much crap for it, I don't know what else I can take. I took some cough medicine with codeine (a Rx from last time I had bronchitis about a month ago), a theraflu cough suppressant strip, Wal-Tussin Cough Suppressants (about 5 hours ago), ZiCam Cough Suppressant, and cough drops/Luden's for throat irritation. I know I shouldn't be taking all of this (I'm going to Nursing school, I know better) but I just can NOT stand this anymore. I am in such misery!!!! This just SUCKS!!! I wish I could have a constant line of trickling water down my throat cause when I am drinking, I don't cough.
It's not even the sickness that is getting to me -- it's the thought of missing two nights of work, two nights of school, and not being able to visit my Mom in the hospital after she had surgery. My honey has class 2 hours up north, so he can't be here (plus, I don't want him to get sick), and he calls to see how I am doing and tells me to feel better ... which is of course nice.
But God help me. Or at least send me a hug! I'm coughing so hard that I am shaking and gagging.... I can't do this very long!! I can't drive (due to me being dizzy and lightheaded and just having taken some codeine), and there's really no one to help me to a doctor right now, although I am sure there's nothing that I could get that would help me at this point.
So no point in this thread other than to vent, and I can't sit on my own porch cause it's like -3 degrees right now!! Someone pass me a drink? ;)
nortynou 01-31-2007, 05:31 PM Sending you lots of hugs and hope you are feeling better soon. Take good care of yourself.
ladyarkles 01-31-2007, 08:33 PM HEY!!
You know better than this :nono: - get to a doctor! It sounds like this has gone to your chest, you need antibiotics - now!
If you don't get proper treatment and continue to strain your already exhausted immune system you will be setting yourself up for future problems.
So off to the bloody doctors with you!!
(consider yourself told, young lady ;) )
Other than that here is a big hug and a warm mug of Honey and Lemon for you!
Rach xx
ToughTimes 01-31-2007, 09:16 PM I'm just crying .... :( This is so frustrating!!! I called Urgent Care and they said "Don't wait - come here tonight!!" Thing is that I am lightheaded and dizzy, and took codeine -- and I am not driving in this condition (moreso for the safety of other people on the road), and there's no one that can take me. I could call a cab, but it's a long way to the hospital (I'm in another city), and I don't have any money (due to some car troubles, I have like $13 till I am paid Friday). I hope to go bright and early tomorrow morning to my regular doctor here in town, if I make it that long!! Thanks for the hugs, girls!!
DaveMoff 01-31-2007, 11:20 PM I'm with those who say you need a doctor....surely you can get over there and have them send you a bill (obviously I don't know your insurance situation). An untreated respiratory infection is no joke, and generic antibiotics are inexpensive.
A Hot Toddy wouldn't hurt, either....at least, things wouldn't bother you as much for a while (and I'll bet it'd stop your cough). Mind, I wouldn't mix that with the codeine.
Junipersmile 02-01-2007, 12:21 AM Hope you feel better soon. If it hasn't cleared up by morning I'd recommend seeing a doc also..better to be on the safe side..and who knows maybe you can recover quicker rather than if you try to battle it out on your own..
Make sure to drink lots of fluids..something like gatorade would prob be good you're probably low on electrolytes..
ToughTimes 02-01-2007, 10:26 AM Thanks guys! I'm going today at 3 pm ... so we'll see. The coughing has lessened SOMEWHAT, but my chest hurts even more now. We'll see what he says later on today. I have been drinking a lot, and even ate some chili and bread last night.
Junipersmile 02-01-2007, 11:24 AM Hopefully you will feel perfect again soon. Best of luck at the doctors.
Franklinsgirl 02-01-2007, 02:00 PM Tough times don't mess around with this, get some help soon. Hope you feel better quickly. God Bless
ToughTimes 02-01-2007, 04:48 PM It's just bronchitis, but he said that it could progress to pnemonia if I'm not careful. I got a Z-pack to take, and called in to work again tonight, and just resting now. I tried to eat a baked potato from Wendy's but it didn't go down very well and now I'm sick to my stomach. Ugh. Thanks everyone!!
boflipflops36 02-01-2007, 08:18 PM Well I am fussing on the porch with you, Her you can have the honey with a little lemon juice in a tablespon, it helps your cough. Just mix it together,in the spoon, now swallow girl! You have got the crude its going around everywhere people are staying on toilets and holding the trash can all at one time, Then coughing, stoped up, fever, chills, ear ache, runny nose, chest hurting, and being put in hospital, They are full around here no more rooms in the INN. My one daughter and her 2 children have had it off and own since 1st Dec, She wa put in hospital, 1 grandson has had it for over a month, gets over 2 thing gets something else. Take vitamin C and drink plenty of Liquid. There are some little tiny cough pills, (don't no the name) there brown and real small, it is the only thing that helps control there cough, Lord they tried every thing also. I hope the z-pack gets rid of it. Now get off the porch its to cold out here for you.-- go make you a cup hot tea with a little burbon in it, add a little honey, sip ! slowly, all of it. Go get in bed. You will feel better soon.
Goodnight sweetie
lilsislovesyou 02-01-2007, 08:30 PM Sending you a group hug from West Virginia!! :grouphug: I hope you get better soon!! Take care of yourself and good luck with that cold!!
ToughTimes 02-01-2007, 09:26 PM Awww, thanks!! :) I wish I had honey and lemon, but I have neither. But I think that I am going to make some tea, that will help. My chest feels like I have a load of bricks on top of it. I AM resting in bed though, just with my laptop and one of my kitties that is faithfully my companion (the other gets scared every time I cough). I miss my honey, too ... :( I did drink a whole bunch of water today!
Boflipflops - I hope your family gets better! Almost 2 months of this? I can't imagine - 2 WEEKS is bad enough!!! Ahhhhh!!
