My boyfriend is in Millhaven Institution and was just assigned to Joyceville this week and will be transferred after some orientation, and whatever else has to take place. I am wondering if anyone knows exactly whats allowed in the personal property package that he can have sent once in his permanent institution. I know some things, but just checking if anyone has a complete list....

Thx!!

A 13in TV, stereo, CD's(they have to be store bought, no burnt cd's) Playstation n games, some magazines. I send lots of razor blades n his razor, his watch (cant have digital). The best thing to do is contact the prison directly and ask them to fax/send you a current copy of what is allowed.
You can contact Visiting V/C, if they are not of help, ask for the phone number to the Chaplain.
Just notes, TV is 13" and always remember to send the cable - it doesn't come with the tv. Best to send a tv that has a head phone jack, some institutions require it. Inmates often move down in security to camps, and tv jacks will be required there.
Little things, like sweatbands, a watch, coffee mug, a fan - especially when summer hits - a fan is priceless. It moves the air in a cell big time, and has a soothing sound. Sony Playstation ONE only is allowed. Discman or walkman, battery recharger and rechargable batteries. Some half decent pens for writing.
Each prison has a limit to clothing, again best to contact the prison. Sunglasses!!!! Also, there is a $1500.00 limit to the value of clothing and contents, jewlery is separate. In winter - gloves, hat. Summer - shorts, t-shirts, running shoes.

Always make the value as low as possible, and remove any pricetags.

My friend is also at Joyceville. His family just recently sent him the personal items he requested. He informs me it will take approx. 2 - 3 months before the items actually reach him! Is that true and why is that?
