:(OK everybody....I am so happy to have found this site. My brother received 14 years and was in county for 2 years. Finally was picked up and taken to Beaumont USP. He was placed in SHU at Beaumont because paperwork was being processed in the mean time an inmate was killed. So brother's paperwork not top priority ended up being in the SHU at Beaumont for 6 months. In June 2006 taken to Oklahoma for one day then transferred to Terre Haute USP. He is in SHU and cannot get any visits or commissary until August. I believe it was because he was in a fight. My question is....Is there anything that I can do to try to get him transferred back to Texas. We are in Waco, Texas and not seeing my brother has caused alot of grief for my mother. Other question....do we even want him back in Texas. I've heard many many many bad things about Beaumont USP. I have tried calling Terre Haute USP and I rarely get an answer. When I do I leave a message for counselor and never get a reply. I just don't understand why he is in USP. He has never had a felony conviction. Please anyone if you can help please respond......WORRIED IN TEXAS

My take on this...remember its just my personal opinion with having a loved one in both locations you mention. First, I personally felt relieved that my loved one was out of USP Beaumont. All likelyhood...your loved one will not transfer back to USP Beaumont if he was shipped out due to disciplinary issues.

Easiest way to get a transfer back into closer range would be to put in a good 12 months to 18 months of clean conduct. It takes time...but time they have! During that time...he may also lower his security level giving more of a chance to make it back to Texas at a different facility.

Concerning Terre Haute...the best time to get an answer with the main line is during visiting days and hours. Someone is usually at the front desk at that time and will answer the call. Out side of those days/timeframes...you have to get a good extension.

I tell you...I just learned that the USP has been without a DHO (Disciplinary Hearing Officer) for some time now which explains why those facing sanctions are being held up. Not sure I understand it all...but it's causing a backlog of prisoners to remain on the SHU and other minor infractions not to be taken care of in a timely fashion. Not sure if your brother is being held up by this or not but maybe he could be released back to general population shortly. I was told someone is coming in from another location next week and they will be seeing a lot of prisoners each day to catch all the backlogs up.

You can view other post I've made concerning Terre Haute here on PTO. Outside of the distance, an 10-11 hour drive for me, it has got to be the best USP I've heard of and actually dealt with. Each person will do their time differently just as each one of us lives our lifes differently out here in the freeworld. Anything can be accomplished if you set your mind to it. Encourage your brother to stay focused and stay busy with positive things, as much as possible considering his circumstances. You, family and friends can assist him by staying in touch and keeping his mail flowing.

Hang in there...it can get better!

Wow........THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH....you know we can certainly learn to deal with the distance. I just wish my mother could have a visit with him. It would really help her tremendously. When he got into a fight a while back he lost his visitation, phone and commissary for one year. August 07 will be one year but now he is in the SHU again. I don't know why but I am very concerned. My grandmother passed away the morning after christmas. I called and left a message for the chaplain to call us back so we could tell my brother by phone and not by letter. (grandmother lived with us so very close) I never heard from them. I called again after we buried her and left word for chaplain to call us back. I never heard back from anyone. So I am wondering if he got really upset when he received letter telling him that grandma had died. Don't know so maybe this will add more time to his punishment. Thanks alot for helping out.:o
