First, here is the basic information on Shafter:
Shafter Community Correctional Facility (SCCF)
1150 East Ash Avenue
Shafter, CA 93263
Kern County
(661) 746-8900
Shafter is not a private facility, they are public but ran by the local city. They do have to follow the same guidelines as CDCR but are not run by CDCR, and are usually a little more lax. I have not been to Shafter, but my husband is in Desert View MCCF, and is being transfered to Central Valley MCCF. These two prisons are private facilities. The CCF facilities are in a contract with CDCR to accept parole violators and new committments that are either level one (CCF) and level 2 (MCCF). If they do violate their parole, they are sent back to the CCF they paroled from. They also do not take offenders that are supposed to serve more than 18 months. Although, my husband has been in for 15 months and has another 5 1/2 to go.
I would call the prison to find out what their actual visiting schedule is like, since I have not visited there before. Oh, I also had to reapply when he got transfered to Desert View from Donovan and was told that if his paperwork does not follow him to Central Valley, I will have to reapply again.
