My son will be released at the end of April, 2007. I need to find all available resources to help him. I am in Texas and he is in AZ. It is going to be hard but will do my best.

Does anyone have or know of places, counselors or anything to help him get a job and get him through this period?

The job thing is a huge worry for me. I am getting physically ill because I worry about him being able to get a job a criminal record.

Does anyone know how to help me help him.

Thank you,

MtoM

I Have been looking on the internet and such trying to find information to help you, so far I have found The Old Pueblo Community Foundation. Though they are located in Tuscan, they maybe able to help you and your son. I am not sure how link's work her so I will PM. I hope this helps.

www.unitedway.com - look up the 602 area code number and see what referrals they have. United Way has become a centralized location for referrls for all types of assistance.

I think felons cannot get section 8 housing but they can get food stamps and medicaid for 3 months? until they can work. They have to sign up with the workforce commission who will help find a job for him.

Unless it was a drug selling or making offense in which case no food stamps.

Not sure why they pick that one crime to be ineligible....

MothertoM,

I sent you an email giving you a link to go preview a magazine publication written by and for prisoners. I could not post the link here because I am new to prison talk and rules indicate I need to post 25 posts before I can include URL's. :(

Instead you can call Linda at 1800-419-2891, she is familar with AZ and is a resource to help your son integrate back into society. The site I attempted to post a link to is "prison living magazine. org".

I hope this helps.
