View Full Version : ADC forced to re-do telephone contract
I do not know all the "specifics", but AR-CURE has just
learned that the prison telephone contract has been
renegotiated. We do know that the commission that the
ADC gets was decreased to the 40% bracket and that the
$6.60 calls for 15 min. has decreased to $4.80.
We will let everyone know the rest when we find out.
Thank you for all your hard work on this.
This news is positive, but we will continue working
toward even lower rates and no commissions.
cessnadriver 01-18-2007, 05:08 PM WOW!!! That IS good news.
Thanks for sharing the information

ittybittykitty 01-18-2007, 07:09 PM Great news indeed:)Pods and Cure......Thank You,Thank You,Thank You, Families need a break!!!! I read in the Demo-crat Gazette Dec. 9th 2006 issue where studies have shown that inmates who maintain regular contact with their families are six times less to reoffend after parol. And I personally feel that families are falling apart because they can not afford to communicate.I would think the ADC would realize cutting the cost of calls will in the long run help them.......overcrowding has become a problem but they don't seem willing to admit it. In the past ten year`the ADC has grown from approx. 9000 inmates to over 13,000 in 2005.Since the 70 0/0 law went into affect in 1995,the prison population has been ever rising. The ADC has been filled to compacity this year to the point at times apprx.900 inmates were being housed in county jails, costing the state $3.2 million to pay for this. And the state really cannot afford to continue to build enough to house them all.Yes,they do emergency kick outs but as soon as they let some go home they are full again from moving them from the county jails they have been housed at.And yes some of these are repeat offenders.....which goes back to the phone thing and communicate study.I know that is not gonna change ever offender from repeating but hey I did not do the study, just sharing what I read.Everything I have mentioned I have read in either the local newspaper or The ADC Advocate.
I guess I am just on a roll this week of running my mouth:)But I would like to see some changes to help people have a chance for a second chance at life. There are good people who made bad mistakes, who deserve respect and to be treated like a human not like trash.Just my opinion and I am sure some of our visitors on here will disagree.Tho I would also like to say I believe there are good people who also work in every unit in this state...I have met them and my loved one has shared with me about the good some have done for him. With that said I will shut up for the night:) Be Blessed PTOers and all others reading this.Kitty:)
Phone calls from prison will be significantly cheaper for inmates’ families, and the state will take less of their money, the Board of Corrections decided Thursday.

JB's_old_lady 01-31-2007, 11:03 PM Does anyone know when the collect call charges will go down. I didn't know if it would immediately go into effect or not. Give me some info if you can. Thanks, JB's_old_lady
I think I heard Feb 15th. Not sure though.
JimmysBabyGirl 02-06-2007, 01:58 PM Does anyone have any updated information on the inmate phones and MCI. I have been on the phone with these people from MCI for over any hour just today. They have had my account messed up since Friday. I just want to SCREAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

cessnadriver 02-06-2007, 03:04 PM I can't tell you when it will happen, but I can offer my sympathy. (Like that will really help you.)
A number was posted on here somewhere by one of the more knowledegable members and it helped somewhat. At least you get through to a person...as long as you call between 8:00AM and 4:00 PM.
The number is: 1-800-677-6580
Once again, you have my sympathy and when I have another INEVITABLE problem with MCI I will be on here screaming, too.

February 17th
cessnadriver 02-07-2007, 07:16 AM UnbrokenOne -- Did you get that date from the ArDemGaz article or have you seen/heard something lately? The reason I ask is because the article says, "...Prison officials said the new plan could be in place by Feb. 17."
I hate to be a skeptic but ADC has trained me to be exactly that.
Thanks,

JB's_old_lady 02-08-2007, 10:20 PM thank all of you soo much for the information you have posted. It is really appreciated. I talk to my man about 3 to 4 times a week, but hopefully will be able to little more now. Thanks again, I love you all, JB's old lady

Yes you are right, they will do it when they get good and ready. :(
We have requested a copy of the contract, the ADC won't give it to us, so we have to go through a legislator. There is one legislator that said he would get it for us (but you know they are in session now) and we are sure that it is not high on his list. But we will get it, at some point.
So right now we are going on what the ADC told the Dem/Gaz as the starting date and so to answer the question, I agree with cessna... ADC will say anything!
Now, I do want all to know that we are not rid of MCI. I say that because the new contract was signed with Globel-Tel which is affiliated WITH MCI.
So no doubt, anything that is prison related generally is a hassel, but hopefully it will be less of a hassel than MCI is and has been. WE WILL SEE.
