View Full Version : Lets Update The Visitation Forum misscrys 01-16-2007, 03:39 PM HEY OKIES lets start a new thread put where your loved on eis located and all the specifics on visitation i.e days, hours what you can bring and the guards attitudes and so on!!!! dragonflydmp 01-16-2007, 06:11 PM Okay, my husband is at Oklahoma State Reformatory in Granite. He is in the minimum unit there. Visitation for the minimum is on Sundays (medium is on Saturday). They start taking people in at around 7:30am, but I don't remember what time they stop letting people come in. We stayed until 2:00pm. The entrance for visitation is a door with bars on it to the west of the main enterence. You have to ring a bell and wait for someone to come to the door. There are 2 guards. Neither one is terribly personable. The female guard is apparently very strict on rules and even enforces some rules that are not written in "the rules". Your embrace has to be VERY quick or she'll end the visit. They have a bathroom schedule and a guard will come around every 3 hours to see if any of the visitors need to use the restroom. He'll do the same for the inmates at another time. Other than that, you won't be able to use the restroom. Vending machines are reasonable. Sandwiches run around a couple of dollars and pops were $.50, I think. Tables are short and chairs are not very comfortable. I saw several tables where people were playing games (cards, dominos) and my husband said you could get those from the guards if you wanted to play. That's about it. misscrys 01-16-2007, 09:45 PM my husband is a oklahoma state penitentiary in mcalester he is in i unit which is medium security theres only 2 medium security units there g and i those 2 visiting days are on monday and tuesday it starts at 8am til 3:30 depending on what level your on level 1=1 hour non contact level 2=2 hours a week level 3= 4 hours a week level 4=6 hours a week you have to be signed in by 2pm unless its an execution day then you have to be signed in by 12pm my husband is on level 3 so we get 4 hours a week and we have to use the bathroom before we go cause they do not have a restroom AT ALL you can take in 15 dollars in quarters nothing else they do not have games or anything just crayons and papers for kids the visitation room is very small but comfortable enough the guards their are VERY nice ive never had any problems with them misscrys 03-01-2007, 12:20 AM WELL thx to ALL THE OKIES who responded glad we all pulled together for this one leipar 03-14-2007, 07:19 AM I recently went to Lexington Correctional Center is visit my fiance (not LARC but the medium/minimum side of the prison)...The officers were decent and nice enough...It was my first time visiting in any prison and I think they took a little extra time with me than most to get me to relax...lol...There were a good many people visiting, prob like 60-70..You could sit inside and play games or go outside..You are allowed to kiss and hug briefly, supposedly at the beginning and end but if you just briefly kissed or hugged through out the visit, they didnt say anything..It was real laid back..We got to hold hands and all that the whole time..You could sit side by side...It was really nice to be able to touch him and hug on him since I knew a lot of places were strict..I didnt know what to expect! I got to visit Sat and Sun for 4 hrs each day since I was from another state..Overall it was really a nice visit, no problems, and I didnt feel watched..It was only a couple of guards and they didnt walk around looking at everyone..I only saw them come outside once..Of course there are cameras but it seemed more private to not have someone looking at you in person..Make sense? Anymore questions, feel free to pm me... misscrys 03-14-2007, 11:19 AM it sounds like a great visit im sooo jealous that u get to sit side by side but im husbands supposed to be moving to a miniumum any day and in doc language that can mean months ha yea i know what u mean about the cameras at my husbands there arent any cameras but 2 guards in a very little visitin room leipar 03-14-2007, 05:59 PM It was a great visit...Yeah minimum sounds good--he is going to move soon too..They assigned him minimum but he had already been at LARC too long so they sent him to the medium yard there to wait...Your right, it could be 6 months or less like they said or it could be 6 yrs!!! ha ha ha...Im very thankful for the visit I got and how laid back it is...I think it helps inmates alot to be able to be close to their family or loved ones..It gives him something to look forward to and want to do good...If he got his visits taken away it would cause him to act out Im sure...He has been known to fight alot before but he would do nothing to jeopardize what he has now..I think there should be more places like lexington...I know its not appropriate to be making out or anything like that, but let us hug or just be close...I would submit to strip search every time if it meant I could be close to him..Not everyone who visits prison totes drugs in and is there to do something illegal! :) I do undestand some rules are good though...I cant wait to go again...I was spoiled this wkd being with him bc now Im back in mississippi and feel so overwhelmed with sadness for not being closer...anyway, Im rambling! Fixitfox 05-10-2007, 11:57 PM My boy was recently sent to Jackie Brannon. Anyone know about visiting there...how I register, when visiting is, and how to get info? misscrys 06-22-2007, 12:42 AM MY husband finally moved to mack alford yesterday he hasnt been able to call yet anyone know any thing about visits or anything misscrys 07-21-2007, 11:38 PM visits at mack alford are great i visit on the min side and visit starts at 8 30 its a large area the guards are very nice your kids can take in toys and balls and stuff ,the visitors and the inmates can go to the bathroom anytime( i know it doesnt sound like much but try visitin for 6 hours with no bathroom) and u can walk outside and they have about 10 tables outside and theres no guards out there they walk out there every so often it is so GREAT i feel so lucky that he is there mike's angel 07-21-2007, 11:50 PM I just went and visited my baby on July 14th and 15th. The guards were all very nice. The food is good, the warden even came in when I was there and seems nice. I enjoyed my visit there, I was stressed out about it because of all the rules and what not. I didn't like that I had to buzz out of two different doors, go through the metal detector every time I had to pee, and then get patted down and buzz through two doors again, but I did whatever was necessary because I wanted to be with my baby!!! Dress is what it is at other prisons (from what I've been told), no open toed sandals, no low cut shirts, etc. It was a nice casual visit, not uptight or stressful! I'm going back at the end of August! I'll tell you more when I get back from that one. T&O 07-22-2007, 08:01 AM I recently visited North Fork as well, and the guards were very nice (but reserved of course). I didn't understand the bathroom situation, as Mike's Angel mentioned, because a lot of times no one would answer the buzzer and let me in or out. I waited once for a very long time to get back into the visitation room (and I could see my husband and my best friend taking inventory of my scrabble tiles the whole time...HA). There's a bathroom in the visiting room in plain site of the CO so I don't understand why we can't use it. I really like how they have lockers for your purse there though, so if you need chap stick or are on your period you can go out and get the necessary stuff and use the bathroom up front. Then you have to go back through the metal detector and get patted down again (totally understandable)....but I don't think you should have to do that every time you go to the bathroom. You have to take quarters there for the vending machines (each person can bring $20 worth of quarters), and that wasn't too bad. I thought the food choices were VERY limited. If you don't eat pork, you're left with one choice (a burrito). I left feeling sick both days. Most other places my husband was (they've moved him 8 times in 18 monhs) had salads and vegetables too, and I'd like to see them get something like that...I'm a vegetarian. The inmates can get up and pick out games and walk around a little. They just cannot handle any money or go by the microwave. The inmates can also fill out some paperwork and have some pictures taken out of their commissary. This is the first place I've been to that let us do that. Most visitation rooms I've been in were cold, but the one at North Fork was really comfortable. The lights aren't real bright so you don't feel like you're in an interrogation room either. Overall I thought everyone there was very professional, very friendly, and the place they've set up for visits was really comfortable. It is very laid back as long as you follow the rules. mike's angel 07-22-2007, 11:27 AM I didn't know they were allowed to walk around to pick out games, etc. I thought they had to sit the entire time! AGGHHH, next time I'm letting him pick out the game! Yes, the food was limited I didn't eat anything. I ate some of Mike's tray and that food was AWESOME! Or maybe it was because I hadn't eaten in two days! No, just kidding, it was good. Patting down once, not every time, I agree, the inmates are stripped, we are patted, what could they possibly be giving us to take to the bathroom?? The pictures were awesome, I should be getting mine from Mike this week! I'll post them, if I know how! T&O 07-22-2007, 11:42 AM Well, according to my husband, it really depends on who the CO is that weekend. Some COs let the inmates walk around a little, but they have to stay where the CO can see them at all times. The first CO there last weekend told him to sit down and my husband said "it changes every week" and she said "oh, I've never done this before". She wasn't there very long and then the real tall CO let the inmates get up occasionally. I did see him reprimand a prisoner for being over by the microwave though. mike's angel 07-22-2007, 11:46 AM Yeah, I saw that too and one got it for being by the vending machines. CoCo78 07-23-2007, 11:30 AM My husband is at HMCC in Atoka, OK. It is a minimum yard and really laid back. You can go outside or stay inside. You can go out and in as much as you'd like. They don't have guards outside but occassionaly one will walk around the visiting yard. You can hug and touch as much as you'd like (of course nothing naughty). The vending machines are pretty much the same as any other prison I've been too. The guards are really nice. This place doesn't even have a fence so the inmates can walk off if they'd like. From what I'm told this is usually the last stop before home. Hope this info. helps... mike's angel 08-12-2007, 09:17 PM Okay, I'm curious, why is it that they won't allow the inmates near the vending machines during visits? I know I'm dumb, but I'm new to all of this! CoCo78 08-14-2007, 10:19 AM I think maybe it's because they are afraid you might exchange money. At HMCC in Atoka (where my husbands at) he can be near the vending machines but he can't put the money in the machine. That's my guess... mike's angel 08-27-2007, 12:33 PM Okay, I have a goofy question and I should know the answer. Why is it that the inmates can't be around the vending machines or microwaves??? RedNeck73 09-13-2007, 09:42 AM Okay, I have a goofy question and I should know the answer. Why is it that the inmates can't be around the vending machines or microwaves??? Its a security issue, they are prohibiting it so that no exchange of contraband can take place. you would be shocked at what some people will do to bring in drugs and all sorts of other things. lilithinwaiting 10-04-2007, 07:31 PM Mack alford but I know little about it.. I called and was told that 20 dollars in change can be brought in.. No sleeveless tops, skirts to knees and no shorts, no flipflops, no tight clothes , standard stuff. no grey colors or blue.. That is all I know so far, until I visit. |
