Hello Ilene,
Alderson is one of the nicer camps, but a camp by any other name is still a prison. The daily life is very regimented, but the freedoms are considerable compared to any behind the wire facility. The food is also not bad. Most of the camps in WV are 30% over the original design occupancies, but that is not really that bad compared to the amount of room each individual gets compared to a typical prison environment. I spent some of my time at the male version of Alderson, which is Gilmer Camp in Glenville WV. I had a friend who was at Alderson, and she thought that it was the place to be if you had to be in prison. She actually served her term with Martha Stewart.
I wouldn't want my daughter at Alderson though, so I understand your concerns. But, if she HAD to be anywhere like that, that would be the place I would want to see her go.

The Camp Right Now Has A Staph Infection And They Don't Seem To Be Doing Anything To Keep It From Spreading. There Dishwashers Is Not Working. Some The Inmates Serving Food Have The Infection And Not Wearing Gloves. Just Sounds Like Some Thing Back Could Happen. Just Really Concerned. Thanks For Responding. Ilene

Hello Ilene,
My wife is currently at Alderson, and as you have read already I am sure, IF one must do a prison sentence, Alderson is probaly the best place to be. Life could be a lot harder. Alderson is very much like a VERY long basic training term in the military. Life sort of sucks, but it could be worse if you know what I mean.
My wife has been there for six months and has 1 more year to go. She has had ZERO problems there, but mainly by following the advice of many and that is to stay UNDER the radar, and just make the best of a bad situation. Well hope all goes well and if I can be any help please let me know
