Hello all! I was just wondering if anyone has seen any interesting or well-written (written by DOCTORS would be best) articles on mental illness in the criminal justice system, maybe specializing in biploar and depression? I surf the internet a lot and am aware of the search engines that would allow me to find articles, but since the internet is so big, it would help if anyone had any links for me to certain articles. I need to get a lot of information for Trey's hearing which currently is scheduled for 11-04-03 but we are trying to get it moved up a little bit.

Thanks! ! ! !

What about calling or visiting your local mental health agency and picking up some flyers??? They also sometimes have free videos on different mental disorders.

Ususally the flyers that are given out are quite good!

You might try contacting your local college/university. Librarians in general love helping people with research. Also, colleges have on-line access to 1,000's of professional journals which are not generally available. If you explain your situation, you may be able to arrange a time to meet with a librarian and get some help.

A great book written on the subject is "Prison Madness: The Mental Health Crisis Behind Bars and What We Must Do About It" by Terry Kupers, MD. Published in 1999 by Jossey-Bass. It covers all pertinent issues on this very important and often neglected problem.

Try and get a copy of the mental health act federal and state. It has information regarding forensic mental health, and patients rights. Its worth looking into, as alot of attorneys neglect doing this, and go into court unprepared. Sometimes WE have to tell them, as they are just to busy or lazy to really care. The more you research, the better the case will be to put in front of a judge.

Thanks Kyla - You are right, I feel like I have been doing the research that the lawyer should have been doing a long time ago, but oh well... Thanks again
