Thanks, Denise CREAMYALMONDZ 07-03-2002, 08:24 AM Me neither. I think Shortie knows. Mary S. 07-04-2002, 04:10 PM I haven't a clue about it but would be interested in learning how it works. Shortie 07-04-2002, 08:36 PM Hey you can ready my post about texas weddings. I got married by proxy. It is different in every state in some ways but this this the general way that I know about. Typically it is the same concept but different forms and laws.. Shortie 07-04-2002, 08:39 PM I helped Monty and his now wife get the ball rolling for there wedding. It is not traditional by any means. You have to get married by proxy and it done by a stand in. The groom has to fill out an affidavid stating they wish to marry you. Then you take the affidavid and his birth certificate or id along with your to the courthouse. Then you pay $36 and get your license. You can use it in 72 hours and it has to be used within 30 days or it is void. Any jp or minister can marry you.. You just have to have the person you man designates as his stand in at the ceromony. it is very simply just a lonly type of wedding. BillnDenise 07-04-2002, 09:22 PM Thanks, I was just wondering. From the looks of it, Billy and I may not marry until he comes home--if at all. Thanks for letting me know how it works. Pam 07-05-2002, 12:00 AM Denise, Are they not allowed to have the chaplin at the prison preform a ceremony with you there? With the chaplin obtaining a license for the both of you? What is this "if ever stuff" You okay? I am here if you need to talk. You need to go and read my introduction here on the website. Hope all is well for you . Take care Pam vnvdvc 07-05-2002, 07:47 AM Hmm.. marriage by proxy sounds interesting. Does it really feel like you were married at the end of the little service? I don't know that it would be much different than a court house service, just missing the man. So I guess it would be all right? BillnDenise 07-05-2002, 12:01 PM Pam, Yes, Billy's prison does have marriages. He's in federal so they are more accomodating the state prisons. We are having a few problems and right now and marriage is off the table again. It's a long story. Thanks for your concern. Hugs, Denise vnvdvc 07-05-2002, 12:12 PM Sorry to hear you are having a rough time together right now! I hope you are talking things through? Not trying to nose, just concerned at the comment, Denise. My thoughts to you and Bill! KelliKoz 07-07-2002, 12:13 AM I am getting married by proxy in Colorado. Although we can have a prison wedding here, we choose not to do that as it feels demeaning to only have the guards there. We will do our own vows during a visit. We plan on having a special ceremony after my fiancee's release. I am not looking at it as lonely, because we will tell each other what we need to. It is a bit different than Shortie's wedding, I don't need a stand in. He fills out his absentee application, I obtain it, file it with my application. The "ceremony" can be performed by anyone, so I will have a friend witness for me. We have 30 days to use the marriage certificate in Colorado. Your string search could be "proxy marriage in (insert state). I think About.com has a special section. CREAMYALMONDZ 07-10-2002, 08:45 AM Thanks Shortie! I have to check to see if they do that in Virginia. B-Ray 07-10-2002, 10:18 AM Humm, with all this proxy stuff going on, wouldn't it be neat if they could be done with the PTO family present at an annual bash (meeting)? Another reason to have a Nation wide party along with celerbrating those that have "hit the gates" that year. vnvdvc 07-10-2002, 10:34 AM What an idea, B-ray!! Shortie 07-10-2002, 08:42 PM i pray that yours and billy's problems will be resolved with a positive manner, I am praying for both of you. Meia 08-15-2002, 10:01 PM Okay I am new to this but I do have questions regarding prison weddings.Me and Zell plan on marrying some time soon but he nor I am sure about the rules? Is there a such thing as "Family Visits"? Congigal Visits? or is that just TV? We might wait being that he SUPPOSE to be released by the end of this year. Any body know the rules of CALIPATRIA STATE PRISON? red4rings 08-20-2002, 02:36 PM my wedding will not take place as a proxy it will be in the chaplin at the prison but he has to wear his uniform lol that sucks. KRIS_NC 11-15-2002, 04:55 PM I WANT TO KNOW IF NORTH CAROLINA HAS THIS PROXY THING.IF NOONE KNOWS WOULD I CALL THE CLERK OF COURT TO FIND OUT Glenns Angel 09-30-2005, 12:48 PM hello everyone, Glenn and I are planning to be married on Valentines Day by proxy in 2006. His dad is his stand in. But we were wondering if the laws are gonna change for proxy marriages in 2006. W e both have heard that there are several new laws going to take affect in feb 2006 that will affect texas inmates and the prison system. Maybe I am just paranoid becouse I am finaaly getting what I want and I'm just afraid that someone or something will come along to take it away from me. But I thuoght maybe someone on here would know if they will still allow proxy mariages for inmates in texas in 2006. We were told they might be changing it as they might be changing the visiting rules as far non family memebers go. Any info from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Glenns Angel notlyte68 09-30-2005, 01:52 PM I haven't heard that anything would change as far as proxy marriage. I can't see Texas changing it too much since they don't allow marriage inside the prison, but I don't know. I got married by proxy in Texas in September 2005 and no one said anything to me about laws changing. Anyway, as far as I know only Colorado and Texas have proxy for inmates. The other states that do it, only do it in the cases of military deployment. So anyone interested in doing it would have to go to the particular state they choose and get married there. There is one state that does double proxy marriage (where both parties do an absentee affidavit) but I am not sure how that works. Texas is pretty easy to get a proxy marriage completed. corvette 08-09-2006, 09:12 AM Does anyone know about marriage by proxy in the state of Oklahoma? mrsdragoness 08-09-2006, 09:26 AM I don't think Oklahoma does proxy marriages. corvette 08-09-2006, 12:52 PM Who would know? mrsdragoness 08-09-2006, 12:57 PM Call the offices in your county/state where marriage licenses are applied for. hrllak 06-09-2007, 07:37 PM my fiance and i are having problems getting married cuz we can't get our marriage license cuz the clerk says we have to both be theren to sign it in person. He's in prison how is that suppost to work. I don't understand all the issues. Don't they have rights to get married in prison. He even signed a limited power of attorney for me to get the marriage license. We've been approved for the wedding and still they won't accept it. What the heck. I feel for you. I'd like any help you have as well. thanks. kktx 06-12-2007, 11:02 PM I have read about some people flying to texas and getting the license. There is an affadavit that needs to be signed by the missing person. and notarized and you have to have your stand in that is designated and thats all. I am getting married thursday.... ivycullens 06-12-2007, 11:11 PM I was married by Proxy... It was actually kinda funny because he mother stood in. Lol.. You fill out some paper work which if you need send me your e-mail address and I will attch the file for you, then you go to the county clerk get a marriage licsence... You have to wait 3 days (at least I did) then you go before a judge and perform the ceremony with someone standing in for him. And yes you really do feel like you are married at the end! Lol- Also just so you know... If either of you decide to get a divorce... it will not be considered a divorce... It's a anullment... because you never consimated you marriage... AKA sleeping together. lit4ever 06-13-2007, 05:06 PM Be careful with trying to do proxy marriages in Pa. I sent my baby the proxy authorization paperwork he needs to fill out and he still hasn't received it. He has gotten all my other mail but not those papers. I think they are holding it on purpose. But God is on our side and we will be married whether they like it or not. Jr'swifey 06-29-2007, 12:09 AM I'm in the process of getting married by proxy in Colorado. Its actually pretty easy, all i did was pick up the absentee form and have him fill it out and have it notarized by his counselor, he sent along a paper with all his info. like cdc# and release date, etc. that was good enough for them for proof of age instead of trying to get his birth certificate, and i picked up the marriage license and sent it to him to sign, all im waiting for is to get it back and ill sign it and then it will all be final, We Will Be Officially Married! I do know that in 30 days your marriage license's do expire so thats the only deadline we have. If anyone needs anymore info i would love to try and help as much as possible. |
