View Full Version : 10 years later....kids, homes, own business
littlebrother 01-05-2007, 08:11 AM Well i came here to get some support for my brother but ill tell my story if anyone cares...
I was involved in some felony theft when i was 18 (1995) and in 96 i was sentenced to 6 years. I stayed in the county jail for 19 months before going to a community service camp in central kentucky. I was a teachers aid there and painted a mural in the entrance. After i got out i lived with my mom for a bit and worked construction with her boyfriend and also went to college for computers. I then got a job and ended up managing an internet service/pc repair place until it went out of business. I then did some temp service help and went to work at Verizon Wireless Corporate as a sales rep. I did this for almost 2 years but when they actually wanted to hire me they ran a background check and ....out i went. :(
My manager there actually referred a new agent location in the mall to me and i was hired on the spot to run this store. I did this for 4 years and in may of 06 i opened my own store. In september i opened a second store in indiana and plan on tennessee this summer. In the meantime I have 3 wonderful boys, i bought a small house, i own 2 motorcycles and 2 vehicles. My older brother who is locked up says he looks up to me and wants us to be closer when he gets out (we were never close as he was always in trouble and i was the good kid....go figure). Anyways, I just want guys/girls to know that I just turned 30 years old and yes i regret things in my past but thats just what it is...the past. It just goes to show what you can do with your life instead of screwing up again and getting back into the system. I remember being in the fish tank and hearing lectures of how many people int he sytem actually get out and end up back in there....it was scary.
Anyways, thats enough of my story...hope it helps.
HOPE4FUTURE 01-05-2007, 08:16 AM CONGRATULATIONS!!! I love success stories!
boflipflops36 01-05-2007, 08:38 PM Litle brother,

That is grat.
I wish you the best. Where in Tennesee you going? I love my home state of Tennessee. EM ME. I read your brother page and saw his sweet daughter. He looks like a plesant man also.
daydreamer38141 01-05-2007, 08:50 PM I am really happy for you. Congrats sweetie!! I tell my boyfriend that all of the time because with him being young, they try to break him down and tell him that he won't be able to do this and that..but he knows that they are just trying to get in his head...He has so many goals that he wants to accomplish and I told him that he will prove those who doubt him wrong. Are there any tips that you can give me that I can pass along to my boyfriend? Or tips for me because I want to do everything I possibly can to help him prior to his homecoming and when he comes home?
littlebrother 01-06-2007, 10:13 AM hi guys, thanks for the replies...
Maybe alot of my change is due to not having my dad around since i was a kid. I was determined to be a BETTER dad and i am. When i was final sentenced I was enrolled in college to be an EMT and had lots of plans....well being gone 2 1/2 years kinda sidetracks things. And when I got out I decided I wanted to do other things....My first son was born during finals week of my first year in college. His mom and I actually took him to finals with us. I was in college 2 years mainly taking computer classes that related to the field i was working in....i still need about 10 credits to get an assoc degree but have no time now. Maybe I should be a motivational speaker? lol I was in jail with some other guys my age and i see about half of them are back in, with PFO offences and getting 10-15 years.....Im glad i was stronger.
Daydreamer, just tell your man that when he gets out its a fresh start, just because he was locked up doesnt mean hes always going to be a criminal. MOST people I know dont even know about my trouble. Why should they? Does it make a lesser person out of me? no. I dont have unrealistic dreams, I want to build a house in the country someday, and work a few days a week doing something. I have my kids and all the other "physical" items one would want so Im proud.
and boflipflops...we are waiting for a lease for clarksville and nashville will be looked at too since we are in western ky and both are within 2 1/2 hours of here.

gettingby 06-21-2007, 06:25 PM Little brother, your story was so great, I sent it to my son who is waiting for a bed in bootcamp. He just wrote me back and said it was so inspiring. He reads it everyday and said his goal is to get out and have his own story to tell. Thanks for sharing.
pmitch10 06-22-2007, 06:13 AM Thank you for sharing that. You are an inspiration and a testimony to all those others who are at the moment incarcerated and serving their sentences.
People CAN and DO change.....just look at society and how much IT changes in the span of just 10 years. Cannot we give the same credit to the people that make up society especially with given enough impetus to do such. There is ALWAYS HOPE! Nothing and nobody ever stays the same. Life makes sure to it. :)
