Hello everyone:

Would any of you mind sharing how you explain your conviction to a prospective employer with me?

How much information should be revealed? How much information is to much? What should you focus on?

I already drafted one letter and mailed it with my application for employment. My story is so long and complicated I want to sumarize the events of what happened without writing a book.

Thank you in advance for your contributions.

Ginger

Hi Ginger,

My cousin was just released from prison, after 9 years for armed robbery. He got a job with nationally known cell phone company. He said that he was just honest, and told the interviewer that he was a better person from his experience and that he just needed a chance to prove himself. He got the job. Not every employer was opened to hearing him out, but he was diligent. He found his job, 1 month after he was released.

Basically, I would explain what happened, but I would play up the positive aspects of your past. How it made you better, how you learned from your mistakes. This is what employers want to hear, especially if they are going to listen to what you have to say. You can do it!

Good Luck to you!

Mrs. Joe
