View Full Version : Don't forget postal rate are going up!
danielle 06-29-2002, 10:38 AM It seems like it was just a few months ago that postal rates jumped to 34 cents. Now get ready for another hike. The new postal rates go into effect on Sunday. Starting next week, mailing a first class letter will increase by three cents to 37 cents.
As many letters as I send - they'll make plenty off of me!
Alabama lets me mail stamps directly to Wayne, so I sent him 20 of the 3cent stamps last week to compensate for the rise in postal rates. Don't need anymore delays in the mail service!
BillnDenise 06-29-2002, 01:37 PM I remember because I told the postmaster I wouldn't be back until after the first to buy my book of stamps. He said that they were already on sale and I told him that I'd just wait so I wouldn't get confused. :haha:
I can't send Billy any stamps, but I wish that I could. The way he talks, that's his "money" there so he buys everything with them.
Hi....
Mark called yesterday....said his prison doesn't even have the new stamps (or anything that makes up the price increase), so he has no idea when he can get mail out.
'Tis bloody stupid.
~cheenna~ 06-30-2002, 06:43 PM makes me sick.... wouldn't be so bad if they gave decent service!!!
danielle 06-30-2002, 06:51 PM Yep - prices are high and service, well, sucks. You would think that since the inmates have to buy their own stamps they would have the new stamps available or at least 3 cent stamps.
aprilcat 07-01-2002, 06:46 AM i went out and bought a bunch of .03 stamps to supplement the pile of .34 ones i have. i can't believe it's .37 to mail a letter! and, of course, sometimes mine are super fat and i have to double the postage, so that's .74!!! :(
CREAMYALMONDZ 07-01-2002, 08:04 AM Geez before you know it will cost a dollar for postage!
Mary S. 07-02-2002, 08:42 AM Supposedly the rate increases have to do with the postal service losing $$ because of the internet. I wonder if there are published graphs that can back it up? Regardless, I know we will continue to pay for the stamps and keep writing our loved ones. Seems we are quite the target between this and the horrible phone rates.
Shortie 07-02-2002, 03:36 PM seems like the only people who really care about this are the ones who have loved ones in prison who write often...
BillnDenise 07-02-2002, 05:39 PM Shortie,
I agree. If Billy wasn't in prison then I wouldn't be worrying about it. I buy a book of stamps every two weeks. Today I got a letter from Billy. He didn't have any 3 cent stamps so he had to put 2--34 cent stamps on it.
jdswifey02 07-02-2002, 06:19 PM Before I had JD I wouldn't have been that concerned about postage increases.... but now postage is a rather major part of my monthly budget... sad, but true!!! I didn't even think about how it may affect HIS outgoing mail.... ugh!! Hope they will just throw on a three cent stamp and take it off his books!! I don't wanna have to go without mail!!!
danielle 07-02-2002, 06:33 PM I know what you mean - never gave postage rates much thought until now. In fact, in my wallet the other day, I found some 33 cent stamps I had never used. Now, postage is in my budget - just like the light bill!
