I just got a call from my brother at Beaumont Low, his point count is low and he's looking into camps. Texarkana is one we're looking at since it has RDAP.

Does anyone have any other information on the Texarkana camp or other camps in Texas? I'm in Houston, so I really wish we could get him closer.

Has he considered staying at Beaumont? It's the closest camp to Houston and generally has a few RDAP classes running concurrently. My husband is in a RDAP class that graduates at the end of this month. The camp isn't bad (as far as camps go) since the USP has started running it.

Would the Beaumont camp be listed as USP on the inmate locator? He has a co-defendant that just transferred to Beaumont and is listed as USP. If he's in the Beaumont camp my brother can't go since the co-defendant sang and they're excluded from being in the same facility....

Hmmm, I don't know. The next closest camp is Bastrop (near Austin), I think they have RDAP too but I'm not sure.

There are four facilities at Beaumont. The USP, a medium, a low and the satellite camp.

It looks like his codefendant is listed as USP. You mentioned in another post that the USP is running the Beaumont Camp. So if his codefendant is at the camp he won't be able to transfer to it (the codefendant was at another facility in Low).

Bastrop is much closer than Texarkana. Bastrop does have RDAP at the Low facility but it does not appear to serve the minimum/camp facility. So it looks like Texarkana may be where he goes.

If the co-defendant is at the Beaumont low then your brother would be able to move to the camp for the RDAP program. Beaumont camp is much closer than Bastrop (he could always move to Bastrop and take the RDAP through the low facililty, not as much freedom of movement though). Since the USP has been administering the camp at Beaumont, things have become much more enjoyable on visits. We're allowed to touch more and snuggle. They've started to provide coloring books and crayons for the kids (none of this was available when the low administered the camp). If your brother has a choice then Beaumont would let you see him much more but if he can't get there then Bastrop or Texarkana is an option.

Good luck, I hope it works out for your brother.

It seems some on this thread are familiar with the Low at Bastrop. Can anyone tell me how it compares to other Lows as in daily grind job options GDE classes(I have a Math degree and could teach). Also prisoner behavior ie fights or worse violence frequency.
