My Brother has been at rikers for almost one year now and i have not gone to see him. He is Muslim and they are having something which will allow him a 6 hour visit and he wants both me and my sister to come. I dont know how to get there from Long Island and i am a little nervous about even going.

How do they check you before going in for a visit?

How bad is it really and how long should I expect to wait?

I know it is terrible but part of me does not want to go, I am upset because he got himself there because of the lifestyle he chose and now I have to pay some of the price. He is looking at 15 years and this thing has burdened me so much.

I guess what I am looking for is answers and a little support.

I could understand how you are upset and torn.

We all make mistakes. Some are small mistakes and some are huge.
And sometimes we keep making the same mistake until we finally learn.
He may have done the “wrong” thing and may have continuously done wrong things and surely he has already had a lot of fingers pointed toward him.
However, you’re his sister
Be there for him, you may be all that he has.

And so when you find out the particulars, make that visit. It probably means more to him then you could imagine.

It's not as bad as everyone says it is (in my opinion.) when you first get there you juss walk through this thing that checks you. then you sit down and wait for about an hour for a bus to come and take you to his building. then someone searches you and you go to another waiting room. you wait there for about an hour or so for them to call your loved one's name and then u get to go in and see him.

everything's gonna be ok. bring your own tissue tho if you plan to use the bathroom because their tissue is nasty.
