Hi all.

Finally the time has come.... I am heading to Terre Haute on January 18th. It's been so long and i miss his face so much that i can barely breathe. My last visit with my husband was almost 18 months ago. He was in California then and our visit was terminated after 10 minutes.

For those of you that have been to Terre Haute (since i have not) I have a bunch of questions.. First of all i should probably mention that he is at the USP and in the hole, as always!!!!

1. What hotels have you stayed at? How far is it to the prison?

2. Is there any transportation from town to the prison?

3. I'm assuming the visiting days/hours are the same as all federal
USP's. Friday - Sunday - 8am - 2pm?????

4. Do they use the ION detector there?

5. What are the visits there like?

6. I am flying into Indianapolis and then making my way to Terre Haute.
Anyone done that?

Please include anything else you think i might need to know. I am traveling far and any or all info will help.

Thanks, Lauren

I know you are excited! It's so hard to go a long period of time without a visit!

1. Best Western
3053 US 41 S
Terre Haute, IN 47802
812-238-1461

This is a little more pricer then some of the other places but it has some advantages. It's newly remodeled, it's close and in walking range of places to eat if you won't have transportation. There is a site that you can get coupons most times...I'll try to find it for you as I just tossed out the extra booklets I had...I shouldn't be needed them in this New Year!

2. Cab service. They have numbers at the hotel I mentioned. And if you are staying for all 4 days...you may meet others who are there for the same purpose who could help you out too.

3 Fri-Mon, 8-3. Besides the time it takes to check in...its the entire time until they call 'last call' which is usually alittle before 3pm. If he is in the hole...his visits very well could be shorter so check into that. There are 4 lil visiting rooms for those on the SHU off to the left as you walk into the main room, separated by glass but it's better then no visit!

4. Yes they do use the ION detector. Since you will be using other transportation...take a baggie of baby wipes with you. When you get out of the car, wipe your hands and shoes off real good. It's just an extra step you can take to try to fight off an unwanted positive!

5. Honestly...anytime you can see your loved one, it's just a wonderful thing! :D

6. I have drove each time I went and passed thorugh Indy. It's like 70/75 miles if I recall correctly.

Have a safe trip and have fun!

usually they will just waive the wand by you and let you on through. But i am sure a doctor note will help
