Many die in prison from lack of treatment. Lot's of info in the Hep-C forum KTC.

Yes, it's a terminal illness. There's treatment for it that's sometimes successful, but it's hell taking the treatment and it's very expensive. My daughter-in-law had to take a year of the treatment because it's also used for the type of cancer she has.

No, as far as I know you couldn't pay for the treatment. And the length of time one lives depends on the stage of the illness etc. and one's lifestyle. Tell your man not to get any "tats" in prison.

I have it. My husband has it. Yes, you can die from it. And getting tats in prison is a horrible idea.

I have it, and my husband has it. I had a friend die from it just a few months ago. Neither me or my husband show any of the signs, I had a biopsy done a few years ago and it showed no fibrosis so I decided not to go on treatment because I don't think I could work for a year in that condition, I'm waiting to see if something better comes out. If I had any symptoms or if my biopsy showed a little fibrosis I would probably go on treatment. My husband is in prison and they do treat HCV at this prison, they take all the inmates in the state who want to go on treatment & do it all in one place. My husband went to get the biopsy but he chickened out at the last minute (it's a long needle inserted by your ribs and if you don't have pain meds it could be pretty bad). So he can't do the treatment because he didn't get the biopsy. The treatment does cause, in some people, severe mood swings & depression, nausia, headaches, a very good friend of mine is on it & she's always sick. My husband was afraid to take it in prison because they don't them anything to counteract the sides & he was just real nervous to take it without real good doctor supervision. At least we aren't drinking, that will speed up the liver damage.

actually what there needs to be (thanks danielle for the links i found them to be incredibly useful & helpful)...what i was saying is what needs 2 be changed is NO MORE TATS IN PRISON, no more sharing needles. no more this & no more that!

you know KTC--and i dont want to start WW3 or something, a few hrs ago i had posted something inregards to billy getting a new tat in prison & they gave me the link to where you had posted about prison tats. and your bf's excessive RAZOR useage. they gave you a shit load of info. if you just CLICK on the links danielle provided...it will give ya all the info. so you dont need 2 post the same ? more then 1 time!

you keep saying how you tell your BF about how your telling him 2 be careful. did you happen 2 tell him he can get HEP C, AIDS? because clearly, he isnt going 2 stop cutting himself, and he is going to stop giving these so called "tats". so you had best talk some sence into that guy. if not, then i dont know what to tell you.

but go back 2 your previous post about tats. and click on the LINKS. THEY WILL GIVE YOU ALL THE INFO YOU NEED!

thats my 2 cents

UH okkkkk. For one my man doesnt cut himself in there, he hasnt even got a tat, and yes i explained what could happen but he is a big boy like all the other inmates and will make his desicion if he wants to give them and get paid for it. And i had posted on another site about tatts yes, but this wasnt suppose to be about them, this was suppose to be about Hep. c question and someone mentioned tatts and it turned into that being in some posts. So, just read the post and u would of saw. and he doesnt have excessive RAZOR useage at all, he just has fun and gives tatts, and he doesnt cut himself so dont say it like he does, he did one time and that was b4 he went to jail, was a dumb thing, didnt kill him and hes lucky. But nah, hes not like that, you gotta understand him to know, he doesnt mess with it himself, he has fun. i already told him and he said he would listen to me and be careful, thats all i can say, theres lots who do the samething, but u cant worry your whole life if this n that, cuz u only have one, and his is in thier for now, so make the best of it./ ktc

There are different types of hepatitis if I am correct. My boyfriend had a type of hep when he was in prison the first time. I am ashamed to say that I don't know which type cuz we weren't together at the time, and because I never realized how horrible this disease can be. After reading these posts, I defintely will get informed. This is NOT something to be taken lightly. People, in prison or out, die from Hepatitis every day. And if they are lucky enough to have the type that isn't necessarily fatal, thank your lucky stars.

well KTC, he clearly DOESNT listen to you, if he did, you wouldnt have to post this stuff. and he clearly didnt cut himself correctly IT IS UP & DOWN instead of side to side.

look KTC, i dont know what is up your butt, you make a posting regarding tats, you give out WAY too much info. it can be used against yall. maybe you are starved for attention...maybe you just like to cause drama & grief. but you were given advice regarding the HEP C & prison tats.
take the info you want, and leave the rest behind. but i have noticed that you start shit in just about every posting you start or reply to.

have a peachy weekend.

KTC,
Back to the subject here, I believe the subject was on HCV right? Okay well you asked how I got it, probably from shooting up years ago. There are other ways to get it but I'm pretty sure that's how I got it. I have never felt any of the symptoms before, some people will progress faster than others, but the only way to know for sure is to get a liver biopsy which I did and I'll repeat it about once every 5 years, but so far my liver shows no damage and I've probably had this for 10 years. So it can be a very slow killer, and in my opinion there's a good chance I won't die of it, I think I'll die of something else before it has a chance to kill my liver. Maybe I'm dumb for thinking that but it's been 10 years and my biopsy was fine. I know that drinking speeds up the liver damage so it's important not to drink. Anyway I said it can be a very slow killer, but in other people it can kill pretty quick. Web MD has a great HCV site if you want to know more.

on top of all that has been said here, as a nurse i want you to know that GLOVES and antibacterial soap WILL NOT kill or help with Hep C.........you can get this with gloves. are you trying to tell me that the old man believes he is using a sterile technique????????? when's the last time you got a professional tatto. do you know the lengths that artist has to go to to keep you safe? i know, you are fighting a loosing battle trying to talk sense into the guy so give it up. copy some of those great web sites that are liked here, send it to him and then never say another word EXCEPT that you two will be using a condom for the rest of your lives unless you want aids or hep C! don't worry, it doesn't hurt much and it WILL push you from one life time to another a whole lot faster!

Uh well obviously i didnt and the only one on this post that did was you. And we dont care about cutting cuz thats for idiots, maybe like yoursef, i dont know. i started this post to learn about hep c., it was going good until u posted, as u can see if u read the other helpful post. And about giving out way to much info., I DONT CARE, i told u guys a way it happeneds in jail, who gives a sh**, like anyway can stop it, paaallzee, they smuggle drugs in for goodness sake. i do not start stuff in my post, as u can tell i fu actually read them, theres always someone else that starts crap b4 me, i just finish it. now grow up and realize this post was for hep. c, not arugeing, someone mentioned tatts, so it got thrown into this also, big deal. geeezzz. u cant win nowadays with people, can ya. ktc
