View Full Version : US Penitentiary in Beaumont, Texas
gale38127 12-20-2006, 11:55 PM I haven't been able to find any posts in the US Penitentiary in Beaumont, TX. My son, Wesley, is there. He will be for a long time, unless I can ever get him moved back to Memphis, TN. I don't see that happening. He said there have been SIX murders there this past year in prison. Imagine that! I would like to talk to people that have someone there. He is in the High Level.
Please email me, or send a post if you have someone there. I may not be looking in the right forum.
Have a nice holiday, even if our loved ones are not at home with us as they should be.
Thanks, Gale
Zelda50 12-21-2006, 01:06 PM USP Beaumont is a tough prison. He just needs to mind his own business, not get into debt, and not get in anyone's face and he'll do fine. I don't have anyone there but I know there are folks around who do - or have in the past. So hopefully they'll be along soon with some info. After he's been there 18 months without a shot, he should be able to at least request a transfer to a USP closer to his family. Worth a try. Z.
sandra8376 12-21-2006, 08:53 PM My husband is in the low at Beaumont, right next door to the USP. He said that even their facility can be affected by serious lockdowns at the USP. It is a tough place, but like Zelda said, he needs to stay to himself and not get into debt. I hope he can move soon.
kintml2u 12-22-2006, 05:40 AM The USP in Beaumont, in my opinion (as a loved one of a past resident), is one of the worst within the FBOP. My only advice would be to remind your son to stay on a decent track...and stay tuned into reaching a goal of getting out of there! Zeldas post mentions a good way to reach that goal...mind your own business, stay out of debt, stay out of others personal space, etc. Even if he gets transfered farther eventually....it sometimes feels worth it (relief) just to have them out of this place!
papa47 12-23-2006, 04:24 PM Six murders? Nope. It is a rough place, but there was only one murder in 2006.
kayteeandjeremy 12-23-2006, 04:43 PM My mans friend is there. He seems to like it. I havent heard about 6 murders but as with any Usp there are many dangerous people locked inside. Try not to worry yourself too much with it. Even in lower security prisons those things tend to happen. Heck, anywhere with a bunch of men in general... lol
Have you been able to visit yet? I hear the visitation room is okay, but i've never been there. Let me know if I can be of help to you.
gale38127 01-04-2007, 12:33 AM Thank you for your replies! Yes! I finally got to go visit New Year's Eve to Beaumont, Tx. The visitation wasn't long enough for me of course, after not seeing him for a year and a half. He was surprised and happy to see us. The waiting room was nice, and the guards seemed ok. It wasn't crowded when we went both days, and I guess that was because of a holiday. Heck, no one can seem to find the place out in the boonies. It is past the county prison and the juvenile dention center. It looks like a fortress outside, but is much nicer on the inside.
I was told there are hardly any books in the library. I am sending him a list I found in the PTO, along with the others I found in Google for him to write for more free books.
I can't wait to get the picture back that we took. He had lost 40 pounds, and I was shocked. I had no idea. Some was due to exercising, as he needed to lose it, and the other is because of the horrible food there. They have to buy any decent food at the commissary and make their own.
Happy New Year, and pass my email along to anyone at the BOP there in high security.
Gale
sandra8376 01-04-2007, 06:10 PM Gale,
I had a hard time finding the low & it's just across the compound from the USP...if you use the address on the BOP website, it doesn't even show up on mapquest or google. I had to do some guesstimates...it is WAYYY out there, isn't it?
Glad you had a good visit, though!
Baby Girl27 01-04-2007, 06:59 PM I am glad that we all had great New Year visits at FCC Beaumont. I visited my hubby on New Year's Day and the day after. It is way out there, but it wasn't too hard to find for me. As my hubby was self-surrendering at the beginning of December, we were like "are we going the right way?" It seemed like it took forever just to get down the road that says "Federal Correctional Facility Beaumont 5 miles." Happy New Year!!
WasiahRashid 10-23-2007, 11:32 AM Hi Gale,
What hotel did you stay at during your visit? I plan on going to see my husband next month and I haven't been there & sometimes booking online gets you in trouble when you get there. Some places seem to "retouch" their photos prior to placing them online.
Thanks,
Wasiah
