For those who have loved ones that have gone through the court system in Ontario, I'm wondering how long the process took from the initial arrest until the pre-trial, trial, and sentencing? Could you also please mention if your loved one was in detention or on bail/own recognizance during the court process?

Thanks.

I think it may depend on the crime because my man was arrested in August and sentenced in December but i know a women who said her guy was in jail awaiting trail/sentencing for two years.

arrested january 18, consented to his detention, had a pre-trial, and pled guilty and sentenced on march 17th, shipped to the federal pen. march 24th. he didn't waste any time at all, he knew he would plea and wanted to get everything done ASAP because I was 8 months pregnant when he got arrested.

It's always different. If he wants to plead guilty right away he will go quicker, but he will most likely get sentenced longer, because the longer you wait the better the deal they will give you.

My boyfriend was Arrested Oct. 13th and his pre-trial wasn't until january, and his trial is set for august.

When he first got in they said he was looking at 7 years, and now it's only 3 - by the time his trial rolls around his lawyer said they will give his a guilty plea of automatic parole and he just has to give up some of his vehicles. This is also because of all the dead time he is doing at the moment.
