I will be sentenced May 3th of this year.
When I pleaded guilty at the hearing, I was told my sentence would be 12 to 18 months in a federal prison camp and the prosocuteor said they would recommend the lower sentence.
I need to know if there is a defference in the CAMPS in Texas.
I am 58 years old and my Plea is Conspiracy to
Embezzle $250,000.00.
My points are 14 with arguements with 2 points off
at time of sentenceing.
What I need to know is things like, do you take your medications with you, Cigarettes, Clothes,Personal items etc.
Your help would be appreciated.
Thank you

Hi digger,
Sorry to hear about your situation.. I was there not so long ago.. except they didn't send me to a prison camp. (liars)
Have you received your commitment papers yet? If so, what camp are they sending you too? Where do you live in Texas (what district)..?
I have friends that have done time at the following camps in Texas:

*Beaumont
*Bryan (female)
*El Paso/La Tuna
*Three Rivers

I have heard the best things about the one in El Paso/La Tuna. Also, Three Rivers is still supposed to have a decent camp.
I know the most about Beaumont since I was at the Medium there and once I hit the 1/2 way house there were a lot of guys there from the camp. What I heard most was that it was boring. Beaumont is totally NO FRILLS with not a whole lot to do. No weights..

I believe there is also a camp in Bastrop. I know for sure there is a low there (have friends that were there) but can't say for sure on the camp without looking and I wouldn't be able to give you facts other than what is in the ole' BOP's guide.. Bastrop use to be the Cadillac prison in Texas from what I hear but they have done a lot to mess that up..
Same goes for 3 Rivers.. The good thing is 3 Rivers still has weights, as does Bastrop from what I last heard.

If you want to give more details, I will do what I can to assist you in finding out what you want and need to know.

When it comes to medicine, I would bring it just in case they let you have it. It depends on the medication and the medical staff at the institution. Make sure you have the labels on any bottles, and if you can get doctors notes, it would be a good idea.. Getting new medications can take from a couple days to a couple weeks, or more...

As for personal items.. It also depends on where you are going but you should be able to get in with a wedding ring, and a religious "medallion". If you have a nice watch, or one that you really want to take with you.. Get it put on you in a semi-permanent way! If you tell them it doesn't come off and there is no clasp that is obvious.. well.. it stays! Get a jeweler to press a band or something.. They won't come out with the bolt cutters..
I know guys that self surrendered and wore in Ironman or similar watches. They stated they got it when they were in pre-trial custody. Take an engraving gun and etch your inmate number on the back of the watch, on the battery cover. This will save you the $35.00 they charge.. for a $10.00 watch..

Hope this helps..

David
