Hi anyone/everyone! I was wondering if anyone knew a solution for this problem. My friend is strung out in a CA prison (Delano) and want's to get out of the spoon. They have a SAP (substance abuse program) there.

Is it possible for him to transfer to the SAP program from mainline?;
Is there any reprocussion from telling on himself and trying to get help; or
Do you have any reasonable suggestions? Thanks!

No matter what he does, if he tells someone he's been doing drugs, he's screwed. No matter what, he is a prison inmate and I know from experience (I myself have done time) that the guards most of the time will look down on someone just because they're in prison.
What he should do is let go of the dope and try to do it himself. That is the best way. (The hardest, but the best)

My boyfriend was in Prison here in Arizona for 17 months-Did meth the entire time he was there..He went in a drug addict and came out worse. He is now going to be going back-He was on parole and he just got a new drug charge. He is a addict and has a severe addiction to meth.

I suppose the "drugs"are getting in through visiting. It's hard enough to keep a habit on the outside (heroin). The monies needed and supply are just a never ending nightmare. I hope your friend doesn't get into debt to these scum that sell it. They don't play nice when you owe.Your friend has some hard decisions to make. I only wish I knew what to tell you.===

I really don't understand why I can't bring a piece of paper with my license plate # on it into visiting but somehow people are getting drugs into the prison. This just totally stuns me. And isn't prison supposed to help you to live with society yet this guy wants to better himself and get in a drug program and they are going to look down on him? We are in desperate need of reform, but I know that is already known by everyone.

some ppl who work in the prison will bring drugs into the prison, too. it's not just loved ones, altho they seem a more likely suspect.

Maybe he should talk to the Chaplain or other spiritual advisor for suggestions.

He can go ahead and request the substance abuse program there. He doesn't have to tell them he's been doing drugs inside. Was his conviction drug related? even if it wasn't, he can still get into the SAP. tell him to meet with his counselor and request it. I know they were recruiting in the visiting room at KVSP for level 4 inmates to go into this program. I would think he'd have a good chance.

Drugs are brount into the prison through the visitation area, and through the guards in the prisons. I was talking to one guard at the prison and she told me that several men had been fired because after they bring in drugs for long periods of time then try to get out the inmates rat them off-They then loose there jobs. The guards are not checked before they go into work-it gets into the prison from visitors and the guards. It is very hard when someone is a addict and still doing drugs because they can get in alot of trouble for telling someone. My advice would be to talk with the chaplin and ask for spiritual help in dealing with the addiction.

although some drugs come through visitation, the majority of contraband comes in through the guards. in fact last month, a female CO in a GA, got caught with 2 cell phones and cocaine. she tried to bring it in by wearing size 13 mens shoes. dumb azz...........

a person has to be READY to get clean and if s/he is using every day, they are not ready. can't a prisoner request a transfer to a drug treatment facility?

Yes, the guards are a big part of bringing drugs, cell phones, food etc. in. My finance is writing me about this all the time. He is just amazed of how much stuff is sold by them. I guess Superbowl weekend was one big party. It's real hard for the ones that are trying to stay away from all of that and just want to get there bid done and get home.:argh:

I feel sooo sad, yet so satisfied when a normie (non prison person) finds out the sad reality of prison. I just hope you aren't so brainwashed by our society that you actually think we had a reason to go to war in Iraq. Or, that George Bush is an honest, caring, person. If you already believe these things you are screwed already. If not, welcome to hell my friend.....sorry to sound so jaded and sarcastic.........its how I deal with my pain:D
I have been to prison 5 or 6 times (its hard to count when you are spun out). And, while I was there I saw atrocities that would permanently damage a normal person's mental capacities. Horrific acts of cruelty committed by both inmates and staff alike. It is hell my friend. The arrogance, hypocrisy, ignorance, and total narcissism of the people inside is enough to drive one insane.............I think all Americans should be mandated to do a minimum of 6 months in a real prison, as a right of passage.
Anyway, once again, I regress. Can you not see the reform the state has done for me??
Once again, I am sorry for being so sarcastic, but to be so stunned by the real world of prison when corruption of our own society and government permeates the T.V. via the news, I do have to wonder what rock you came out from under.......???
My friend, Prison, like our government and 99.9% of our businesses are all about money........wow......imagine that!!!! Can you not see how our healthcare is in our wonderful U.S. of A???? And, you are shocked when you hear about prison life......hmmmm?
Just like our healthcare system, prisons dont give much of a fu#! about how you are, or how well they can serve or help you. I mean if a doctor doesnt care about your well being because you dont have money or insurance, how in God's name could you think that the people who run prisons care about anyone, especially us......CRIMINALS....??

If I offended you my friend, I am truly sorry. It's just that people have no clue about prisons, and the fact that I, too, like yourself, are upset by the conditions, can really get me on a tangent!!!

Oh.........one-more-thing.......if you want to get that piece of paper with your license plate on it into the prison, do like the guys who bring in the DRUGS.........shove it up your butt!!!

THAT BEING SAID- IF YOUR MAN ACTUALLY ELECTED SAP- GOOD FOR HIM. HE MAY GET FLACK FROM THE DEADBEATS LIKE MY HUSBAND BUT, HE MAY GET SUPPORT:grouphug: FROM THOSE WHO KNOW THE REAL ON GETTING SOBER AND MAKING GOOD.:idea:

THIS IS SOOO AWESOME TO HEAR!!

I AM REALLY BURNT ON THIS WHOLE PRISON THING- I STOOD BY MY HUSBAND LOYAL AND DEDICATED -NEVER MISSING NOT ONE DAY OF VISITATION FOR 10 MONTHS- I WAS IN A BAD CAR CARSH ON THE WAY TO VISIT HIM- ENDED UP IN A COMA AND PARALYZED MY ARM:mad:. WHILE IN THE HOSPITAL 5 MONTHS, HIS FAMILY AND MINE PUT ABOUT 1000$ ON HIS BOOKS. ONE LAST THANG / THOUGHT THAT I FORGOT: I WAS READING A FEW OF THE OTHER COMMENTS AS WELL- YUP.. THEY'RE MOSTLY RIGHT. MY HUBBY WHEN HE "WAS" OUT TOLD ME HOW HE CALLED A C.O. OUT FOR BEING HIGH ON WEED - THAT C.O. BROUGHT HIM WEED FOR KEEPIN HUSH - WE SAW THAT C.O. OUTSIDE TH PRISON (WE LIVED IN THE SAME TOWN AS TWO MAJOR PRISONS IN NORCAL - SMALL TOWN TOO!)... THIS C.O. WAS HIGH THEN!!!

I ALSO GOT TO KNOW A FEW "REGULAR" VISITORS THAT BROUGHT STUFF IN THRU VISITS! I WONT SAY HOW- I DONT WANT TO GIVE ANYONE IDEAS!!! THE GUYS JUST TAKE IT FOM THER- EVEN HIDE IT WITHIN THE VISITING ROOM SO THAT THE A.A./N.A. MEETING THAT NIGHT... GUYS COULD RETREIVE STUFF??!!!!!!!! THERE YA GO- GO TO A SOBER UP MEETING TO SCORE!!!

I LEARNED MY LESSON!! I WAS LIED TO BY MY HUSBAND BUT, I LEARNED SO, IT WASNT A TOTAL LOSS! I NOW HAVE A BEAUTIFUL SON THAT "DADDY" WILL NEVER EVER SEE! HA HA HA!

BUT ONCE AGAIN.. IF YOUR MAN IS SERIOUS ABOUT GETTING HELP....

Is SAP in Calif. only offered at Corcoran? Or is that just the main prison built with SAP in mind?
