As it is coming up to Christmas, I thought we could see who will win the title of "Christmas Twit of the Week".

So, get your reading glasses on and see what you can find online over the next week or so.
Post a little excerpt from the story and a link for us to check out the rest of the article in this thread.

Let's see who can find the unluckiest/silliest/craziest person that has made the news before Christmas!

Contestant Number One is Mr Liu from Guangdong, China:

A thief in Qingyuan, in the Chinese province of Guangdong, had to be rushed to the hospital for surgery after swallowing a gold necklace he stole from an old woman there on November 27.
Police chased the 30-year-old man, identified only as Liu, after they say he stole the necklace from the woman in the city’s Qingcheng District in the early hours of that morning.
In the hope of escaping punishment, Liu swallowed the necklace on a street corner before he was caught.
But 20 minutes later, he got a serious stomach ache and had to be taken to a nearby hospital to be treated.
Doctors operated on Liu to recover the necklace.
Police charges are pendng.

Well, I have just been to look - and there is a tiny pony called Edward reading a book on Stamp Collecting; one pink shoe; a scale model of Heathrow Airport; four cans of Mushy Peas; a paving slab and three members of Earth Wind & Fire.
Next question? lol

A CONFIDENT thief who robbed a Highgate shop had the nerve to tell the owner where he lived before he escaped.

On November 15 a robber walked into Orchid florists on Archway Road and helped himself to the takings from the shop till.

As he ran for the door he turned to manageress Melanie Mohidin and shouted out to her: "Don't worry, I'll be back soon. I live nearby."

But despite this big clue, Haringey police have still not managed to track him down.

Melanie Mohidin, who manages the florists, said: "I think he lives in the flats behind the shops. I've seen him since he did it but basically the police said that because we don't have any proof it's just my word against his.

"I'm worried that he could come back and just put a brick through the window."

Her husband Salim said: "You have got to be a bit thick to tell someone where you live just after you have robbed them. That is really stupid."

Mr and Mrs Mohidin only opened the florist in September and are still struggling to drum up enough trade to keep afloat.

She said: "I only had £10 in the till - that was all I made that day - so in that way I guess I was lucky. I didn't even call the police at first because I felt a bit of idiot.

"It was the way he robbed me more than anything. I didn't know what he was up to until it was too late. He played me really well, he knew exactly what he was doing."

Mr and Mrs Mohidin thought their business was really cursed when their delivery van was broken into a week later.

Mrs Mohidin said: "It's quite gutting really. We have not been open long and all this has happened. To be honest I'm pretty scared now. The police gave me an alarm which I take everywhere.

"I used to leave the shop door wide open during the day but I won't be now. When we first moved I wondered why so many of the shops had shutters. I thought it was a safe area but now I think I can understand."

Paul McLean-Thorne, Chairman of the Archway Road Residents and Businesses Association, has urged the couple not to be put off by the recent experience.

He said: "In fact the area has very low crime rates. I think there have only been three break-ins in seven years. It's so busy along here all the time. There is always lots of traffic and people around.

"Some of the shops get paranoid about it but this is the truth. These incidents can get blown out of all proportion."

Haringey Police were unavailable for comment.

Yup, I guess that robbing someone and telling them that you are a neighbour is qualification for being a twit!
