View Full Version : Who watched MSNBC filmed at Holman Crystal_Marie 12-04-2006, 11:03 PM Hey everyone...I was just wondering who all watched MSNBC tonight and saw the show they filmed at Holman and what did you think about it? Smelly 12-05-2006, 12:20 AM I watched it. I didn't think it was very good. I was greatly disappointed. The warden came off as an ass(in my opinion). boflipflops36 12-05-2006, 09:22 AM My daughter watched it. She said it scared the ----out of her. She was glued to TV. She said the gangs were awful. Blueyez94 12-05-2006, 10:29 AM I watched it. It was ok. I was kinda disappointed in it. Smelly 12-05-2006, 10:42 AM The reason I was disappointed in it is I watch all of these shows about prisons and since I have some personal feelings toward Holman I was hoping it would be a standout episode but it was really like all the other ones just a different building. It was a decent show to watch just like the other ones. I must say I was impressed by the guy who can make his own guitars. Crystal_Marie 12-05-2006, 01:58 PM Thanks for all the replies.I watched it at 10:00 and then I recorded it at 1:00 so my friend could watch it.lol I thought the prison looked run down, kind of nasty. The warden did have a very cocky attitude though. He didnt seem as mean as some of the wardens I have seen on Lockup though. nad_25 12-05-2006, 04:47 PM Yeah I watch it...I was on it too, how embarrasing. Its awful what a camera will do to a person's look! haha It was dissapointing becaue it was liek every other episode...I was hoping ther would be more of a meaning to it...silly of me to think that I guess... SnakeCharmer 12-06-2006, 03:02 PM <raisen hand> I'm guilty.. I watched it.... and have since watched it prolly about 10 times. And girl... you liked alright... <eyeroll> better you than me hahaha I was hopen that ... they would show more of the interviews as how they were "said" instead of just picking this and that, and putting it together.. i know.. what was "I" thinking.. oh well.. i love my "superStar" <snicker> what has everyone told their loved one about the show? if they was on it.. and how it made them "look"?? and yes... the prison did look run down... no surprise... the warden....Imma keep my comments to myself ... I also agreed... the guitar was neat as heck. if your loved on was on there.. didn't ya just want to pull him out of the T.V. screen????? <smile> Michele ~in Bama~ Crystal_Marie 12-06-2006, 03:32 PM My friend wasnt on the show :( But I did see his cell though!! yay (lmao) And im like you I think I have watched it about 5 or 6 times since Monday night. lol Sis1980 12-06-2006, 05:35 PM I watched it too. My brother wasn't there though, but I wanted to see what the place looked like on the inside. I'm still trying to get past "Precious". Tuesday we found out that my brother is 2 beds down from him (or her, whatever they preffer). And llike everyone else I have watched it over and over. Crystal_Marie 12-06-2006, 10:34 PM Yeah....The whole man and wife thing was a mess huh.. It was funny. SnakeCharmer 12-07-2006, 09:11 PM *looked .... gah at my typos... sheesh , then come back a week later to fix it HAHAHA.... SnakeCharmer 12-07-2006, 09:12 PM when you talked to your brother what all did you tell him about the show? what was his reaction to what they showed and or who they interviewed? Sis1980 12-08-2006, 03:58 PM I didnt tell him much about it, but what he was told about didn't seem to bother him at all. The only thing bothering him is all the sex going on. As long as he sleeps with his a** to the wall and his mouth closed he should be alright. SnakeCharmer 12-09-2006, 08:38 PM LOL at ass to the wall AND mouth closed! hahaha for some reason.. that struck me funny tonight LOL Sis1980 12-11-2006, 12:12 PM I thought it was funny as hell too, but he didn't find it as funny as I did. He kinda snickered about it. But I was laughing so hard I couldn't breathe. SnakeCharmer 12-11-2006, 06:45 PM got a letter today.... says they are posed to show the MSNBC holman lock up show, "IN" the prison to um.... hmm... think that will be interesting. michele ~from Bama~ Sis1980 12-11-2006, 07:50 PM I have heard that they are suppose to be filming down there again in January. Has anyone else heard that or just me? SnakeCharmer 12-11-2006, 09:29 PM I don't know about that, but he said that they were posed to come back again to film some more... so maybeit is in jan, i dunno. Don't figure they will film him again, since he was on the last one alot... guess we will see <shrug> Sis1980 12-12-2006, 07:24 PM I didn't know they showed your man on there. See how much I pay attention..lol. But my brother is the one who told us. Cause someone at the prison told him, not sure if it was a guard or what. Just wanted to know if yall have heard the same thing or if it was just another rumor. If you hear of it too please let me know. hrmcharles 12-23-2006, 02:33 AM Watched the program. It was fairly staged, but that's a given in such a situation for them to even be allowed into any facility. Grantt Culiver the warden is an all controlling man with absoutly no feelings what so ever. The prison is sand box one compared to other max security prisons around the country. It mainly suffers from being in a very poor state. SnakeCharmer 12-31-2006, 09:02 PM Just thought i'd pop in for a few... Heard that they were pose to be comen back in Jan to film some more, but he wants no part of it... said .. let um toast someone else this time around. and thought i'd comment on something else... yeah, i agree Holman sure isn't up to pare what so ever... and sure Alabama isn't the richest state.. but Saint Clair And Donaldson are also located in AL.. and arent as bad as Holman.. i think ALOT of it has to do with the Attitude that goes along with Holman... that it is the "bottom" .. the worst of the worst.. so why even try?!?! I think it's crazy! NO place should be As bad as Holman... not even Holman. MIchele ~in BAmA~ Bookworm1 01-05-2007, 11:46 PM :( My boyfriend was interviewed, and later he regretted having agreed to it. I was VERY upset by the way that he was portrayed. Behind the tough exterior and all of the bravado, lies a heart of gold. However, in that environment showing ones emotions is seen as a sign of weakness. And allowing oneself to be vulnerable, often means that they are at risk of being victimized. That is something that the general public does NOT understand. I was upset because the producer decided to focus all of her attention on the crime that he committed, but CONVENIENTLY left out the circumstances that led up to it, in order to make him seem as unsympathetic as possible. No mention of the fact that his "victim" inflicted YEARS of horrific and unspeakable abuse upon him and his younger sibling. Also, no mention of the fact that many prisoner's become involved with gangs because they fear for their safety! While the onus to protect the inmates SHOULD fall on the warden and correctional officer's, it is often left up to the inmate himself to decide how to avoid victimization. And there are other factors too of course. Inmates are no different than the rest of us. Regardless of the crime that he/she has committed they are STILL human beings. And despite our many differences, I believe that we all have the same basic needs and desires in common. We all want to feel a sense of belonging and purpose, and most of all we all want to feel LOVED. And sadly, that is something that most of these inmates have NEVER known. The gang meets those needs. I find the subject matter of this show intriguing, but I think one needs to watch it with a VERY critical eye. People should bear in mind that the main goal is to ENTERTAIN, not inform or educate. And we should also keep in mind, that EVERYONE has their own biases, prejudices, personal agenda's etc. And writer's, journalists and reporter's are no different! I find that the media tend to be biased against inmates, and it is a RARE occassion that they are portrayed in a positive light. Many in mainstream society ALREADY view inmates as less than human. People to be loathed and feared. People who are not worthy of being treated with dignity or respect, and are undeserving of our compassion. And all shows like this do is reinforce their negative stereotypes, and make them feel better about the absolutely DISPICABLE manner in which we as a society treat our fellow human beings. From what I saw(and from what I have been told) inmates at Holman live under conditions that are not fit for animals. One inmate spoke of how during the summer months, temperatures can climb up to one hundred degrees in the cell! I have heard that there have been inmates(particularly those who are older or have respiratory or other chronic health problems) that have collapsed, and some have even DIED! As someone who has a loved one at Holman, it broke my heart to be confronted with the harsh reality of their living situation, and the treatment that they receive at the hands of staff, many of whom are sadistic and cruel(the warden being number one!). I found it EXTREAMELY disturbing to listen to the Warden talk about putting people to death in a casual manner, as though he were talking about what he'd had for breakfast that morning. For goodness sakes! These are human beings! Doesn't he feel even an ounce of remorse, for all of the lives he has taken? All of the families that he has torn apart? All of the heartache and pain that he has caused? In my opinion, he is a cold-blooded murderer! What right does HE have to pass judgment on the inmates? Even the most hardened of inmates interviewed, got MY sympathy. The way I see it, they weren't born that way! They are victims of circumstance, and products of their environment. I know that those hard-nosed conservative types will disagree, but I think that we as a society have to take some responsibility for the high crime rate. We don't do enough to help these men, either BEFORE or AFTER they get in trouble with the law. We only seem interested in getting our "pound of flesh". That is so sad. Anyway, my man is NOT the cold-blooded, unrepentant killer that he was made out to be. He is the most caring and gentle soul that I have ever known. He is so good to me! Makes me feel like a princess. When he feelsw safe and relaxed, and is able to let his guard down, his inner beauty really shines through! Well, there you have it! My two cents! LOL For those of you whose loved ones particpated in the taping of the show, did you feel that they were portrayed unfairly? What were you feelings/thoughts? Lisa ladydeath143 01-21-2007, 03:21 PM I know someone that is there also,he actually got to be interviewed! He is kenny loggins. I miss him sooo much. I am hoping that I am still on the list to see him, I haven't talked to him in 14 years! |
