And how long until I know what prison he will be going to. Momma Ann 12-02-2006, 12:34 PM Welcome to PTO first of all you couldn't have found a better place to come for information. Reception is where they send them after County or Rikers. It is a prison (usually Downstate, Ulster or Elmira) where they evaluate the inmates on a lot of things: education, health, mental health as well as giving them an overview of how prison works. Depensding where you go, you can be there from 2 weeks to 2 months. If you are from the NYC area, he will proabbaly go to Downstate, sometimes Ulster. If you are from Upstate or Western NY, he will probably go to Elmira. None of this is hard and fast but is mostly true. Where they are going ultimately has an effect on how long they are in reception. If they are eligible for Shock Camp, they do not stay too long in Reception. They are shipped to Lakview which is the headquarters if you will for shock camps. They have their own sort of reception there. You usually stay about 2 weeks at Downstate-Elmira depends on where you are going. When my son was in Elmira, he was there 2 months-he was going to maximum security. Again it varies. Elmira is in the Elmira Hub. Ulster is in the Sullivan Hub. Downstate is in the Green Haven Hub. When you look on the PTO NY web site, the information for each prison is located under the hub it is in. It is best to post questions about a prison in the Hub it is in. lbjp 12-29-2006, 08:48 AM does anybody know if there is a bus that takes u to ulster correctional facility lbjp 12-29-2006, 08:58 AM does anybody know if there is a bus that takes u to ulster correctional facility i really would like to know am new at this any information about ulster let me know Momma Ann 12-29-2006, 09:59 AM here is the info on Ulster it is part of the Sullivan Hub-you need to go to that hub and look under Share a Ride to get transportation options http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83123 Momma Ann 12-29-2006, 10:00 AM http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=172400 psnvyd 12-29-2006, 11:05 PM more than likely he will either go to one of the two downstate or ulster but i can almost guarentee a 75% cance he will go to downstate first. KdeeBru 12-30-2006, 09:45 PM well i'm from albany and he went to downstate and almost every single person in albany county goes there Momma Ann 12-31-2006, 11:11 AM folks almost all do to Elmira for Reception TAGGERPLUS 01-02-2007, 08:53 AM Hi, everyone my name is Taggerplus. My boyfriend got sentenced on dec 6,2006 and is now in Ulster. He's been there since dec 15,2006 awaiting them 2 transfer him 2 is facility where he going 2 be serving his sentence of 2 years. How long before they transfer him 2 his permanent facility or could he stay at Ulster and do his time? WifeNicAtNite 01-02-2007, 09:30 AM Hi, everyone my name is Taggerplus. It really depends on how long it will take to be transferred. It can range from a couple of weeks to a month or so. Nobody can say for sure but in many cases DOCS is waiting for a bed to open up in the facility he'll be assigned to. psnvyd 01-02-2007, 10:16 AM well mine for example was in downstate for 2 1/2 months becuz they were waiting for a bed and trying to see where to place him becuz he had a medical hold but i have seen them keep inmates anywheres from a few weeks to a few months. Momma Ann 01-07-2007, 04:14 PM (unlikely) he will most likelynot serve his sentence there. panth3r 01-14-2007, 12:52 AM Hi, I am new here. My son was just sentenced on Jan 8th. He's on Riker's awaiting transport to reception. Being that he was sentenced to 14 years as a VFO I hear he will have to go to a max facility and most likely he will be sent to Downstate. My question is: "How do I get to Downsate using public transportation?". Thank you. WifeNicAtNite 01-14-2007, 08:39 AM Hi, I am new here. My son was just sentenced on Jan 8th. My question is: "How do I get to Downsate using public transportation?". Thank you. Welcome to PTO, Yes, he'll go to Downstate for reception. You would take the Metro North to Fishkill (I believe it's the Hudson line but you should double check that) and you'll need a taxi or shuttle from there. psnvyd 01-14-2007, 09:46 PM you can take the hudson line from grand central 125th st or marble hill and u can catch it at 6:20am(first train) or 7:51(second train) and you will take the train to beacon NOT fishkill and when u get off at beacon there will be van services right there i recommend going with ricky he drives a gold colored van and it will cost you $10 round trip also the visit is from 8:30am-3:15pm the train from grand central to beacon round trip off peak will cost you $23.00 and i would bring two rolls of quarters for the food on the visit. i hope this helps. WifeNicAtNite 01-14-2007, 09:57 PM psnvyd, Thanks for the correction on the train stop  ... for some reason I thought I saw someone post that the stop was Fishkill... but then again what do I know... I don't do public transportation. panth3r 01-14-2007, 11:19 PM Now hopefully they will get him out of Riker's quickly. :D Momma Ann 01-15-2007, 06:55 AM for him while he is in Riker's-so they usually want to pass the cost on to the State as soon as possible. My son was in county 2 weeks before the transfer-but Easter fell in the middle and that added a few days I think. dmangel01 01-20-2007, 08:01 PM I must say that you guys are sooo helpfull, I am fairly new to this site and I find so much useful information. But NE Wayz I have a question myself, My husband is currently in downstate and I live in florida, Do any of you's know if I can send him sheets? He's only been there about a week and He has 20 years total so this will be a long haul for us, I've done this before but it was so long ago I'm afraid to say I don't know what to do, Any info is really appreciated.. Thanks again you ladies.. dmangel01 01-20-2007, 08:03 PM Oh I forgot to ask is there anyway I can do online mailing instead? It will be so much better for me to send things that way, being that I am so far away.. thanks again.. saltygal 01-20-2007, 10:01 PM if your husband just got there, he can't have a package for 30 days. I'm not sure if you can send him sheets. I have the list of things you can send, and it's mostly food items. I think you'd have to wait to send him those types of things until he is moved. You can always call them (ask for inmate info or the package room) and they will tell you what you can send and when. if you send a package before the 30 days they will send it back to you. dmangel01 01-21-2007, 08:13 PM Thank you much saltygal, I was gonna send him a package, but now I know otherwise. He says he's freezing in there I feel so bad that I can't do anything I guess money is the best way to go then. Thanks again ilovemyinmate07 02-24-2007, 01:42 AM If we are from the upstate area and they get sent downstate to elmria do they usally place them back upstate or do they take them downstate more?
