My husband has served 8 1/2 years so far and for the last 3 he has been involved in a program called Get A L.I.F.E that helps kids stay out of trouble. There are only about 5 or 6 guys involved in this program, and unlike scared straight type programs, this programs tells the kids about what they will lose if they end up in prison. Judges from all over Vermont refer kids to this program instead of sentencing them to juvenile facilities.

In the time he has been a facilitator, I have wathced my husband gain a much greater understanding of kids. . .this is AWESOME because I have two kids. It also makes him miss us more. . .butit has been such a positive thing for our marriage and family.

Good things can happen inside the walls!!

Want to see the web site for this program? www.getalifeprogram.com. There's even a pic of my honey on there!!

Wow, that sounds absolutely wonderful! Good for your husband!! :)

And that is exactly the kind of thing my guy is interested in doing, at least when he gets out... I wish he could do something like that now, that was a wonderful opportunity for your husband to get into!!!

It has been wonderful. . .and we are both hopeful that when he comes home and finishes up his degree that he will be able to keep working with teens. He is really good at it.

Re:get a life program.is yr husband still involved w/ it?
it is a fantastic program, and should/could be duplicated in other states/facilities, besides vt..the inmates involved are serving for various charges, all the way up to life for murder charges, come from many parts of the country, and many walks of life, but all have one thing in common.the desire to keep young people out of trouble, or helping those who have already had difficulty..these men, and the staff who work the program w/ them, are to be applauded for the impact they have made..they are truly giving back to society at large..if u haven't visited their web site, you should..
