VISITATION at the Ney Unit

Your car may be searched at this unit, especially during a lockdown.
Hours - 8-5 - Sat. and Sun.
Clothing not allowed - no shorts, even on children, no low cut tops, sandals are allowed
You can take keys, id, and a plastic see-through bag with $20.00 in change inside with you.
All visits at this unit are contact visits.
It is always best to call on Friday to make sure there are no problems with visitation for that weekend.

Driving Directions To The Ney Unit From San Antonio

Coming in to San Antonio on 183 go t0 I-10E exit to Houston-Del Rio. Bear right and take Hwy 90 straight to Hondo - approx. 40 miles. Stay on Hwy. 90 through town and the Torres Unit exit is about 2 miles out of town on the right.

Items You Can And Cannot Send To The Ney Unit

As far as letters go, you can mail newspaper articles, information off the internet, pictures - as long as there are no negative or racial articles, etc.
Any magazines, calendars, books must be sent through a vendor.
You cannot mail stamps!

Phone Calls Allowed?

There are no pay phones and inmates are allowed one 5 minute call every 90 days. I am told it is very hard to get a call made because of the long lines.

Miscellaneous FAQ's About The Ney Unit

There is usually no vehicle inspection unless the unit is on lockdown. Once you park you car you go into a small buiilding where you will need your driver's license and the inmate's TDCJ number. You will go though a metal detector before going to the unit. There is outside seating with about approx. 12 tables. The vending machines are always full on Saturday, but get low on Sundays. The guards have always been helpful and courteous.
