Here the state pays for it, but they don't necessarily get the same meds they were taking on the outside. My son was taking Seroquel. They tried giving him Thorizine in place as well as Halidol. He finally received Paxil. They try to avoid Seroquel as it's "too expensive"

Here and in Illinois the state pays for medication but like tigrldy says ,'it doesn't necessarily mean the same meds they were taking". What ever the cheapest version of the medication is what they usually get.

I am on like 12 meds for bipolar. I am certain that the BOP will not keep me on this new wiz-bang Abilify at 2k/mo but I have tried a lot of other meds with bad side effects. What kind of say will I have when they try to change my meds? What I am thinking is that if they try to switch me to Depakote from Lamictal or what ever because it is cheaper can I just say no thanks and go without that part of my regimen? I have been in a state hospital where they did not have all of my meds and got switched and all kind of screwed up where it took me 6 months to get right once out. I was sentenced to 33 months and would rather not be mis-medicated for 3 years.
Does anyone know if I can get Mirapex and Provigil on the inside? Federal system. Does anyone have any experience with being able to bring in your own meds?

Does anyone know if bi polar prisoners are in federal camps or medical facilities?

Hate to say this, but our prisons are the biggest mental health facility the USA has. It is sad. Instead of getting the mental health assistance many consumers need they end up in jail or prison.

Here in Texas while he is in county I have had to pay for his meds.
800 dollars in 2 months. Once he is transferred to SAPF they said they will provide them for him.
Half the time they dont even give them to him right.
I have had to call more than once to get them to get them to him because he was flipping out.

If it is a narcotic they will be taken off of it. Not weaned as you should be. I was on Dr. prescribed xanax for 27 years and they dropped me cold turkey. Its a wonder I did not die. I was out of it for about two months. I knew guys that were on heart pills and were told they did not have it to come back the next day and check. You did not get your meds brought to you. They called it the pill line, if it was cold and raining you were in line standing in it waiting for your turn to receive. Sometimes the pill just did not look right and I found out after I got out that it was a different dose of what I was taking. Your medicine WILL be changed to something cheaper and it will take some time to start getting it on a regular bases.
