Welcome to PTO, Bec! I'm glad that you've joined us. I see that you're in MS. I hope that you don't have far to drive. Is your boyfriend doing ok at Yazoo? Have you been to visit him yet?

Lilmama, your son will have to stay in Yazoo for 18 months before he can put in for a transfer. They won't budge on that unless there is a program that he needs to attend that is not offered at Yazoo or if he has to go to a medical facility. I don't know the conditions at the medium. My guy was in the Low.

Hi guys. New to PTO. I researched these forums 3 years ago when this ordeal started.

I report Monday to Yazoo City Low to serve my 90 month sentence. My family is in Atlanta which is about 500 miles away. That will be tough.

Anyway - if anybody has any advice for me and my family about the Yazoo City facility and what we should be aware of ... I'm all ears.

I read somewhere else that you have to wait 18 months before putting in for a transfer. Is that accurate?

I called the facility and they said I should bring cash - no more than $500 dollars. I'll bring my eyeglasses (contacts not allowed - right) and my wedding band. Anything else?

I am going to go ahead and send my addresses and a book to me this week - maybe it will be waiting for me.

Again - any advice is appreciated.

Scott

I wish I had seen this eralier as far as Yazoo FCI, I was there from October 10, 2000 to September 1st 2002, I wathed them build the medium,. it is behind the yard of the Low, it is visible from my Unit 1A Upper, and the rec yard.
The low was considered a place they sent any one they considered a problem, and the food was terrible. The place was in the middle of a lot of woods until they tore them down to build the medium.
The Medium has only been open about 5 years, and the low is only about 10 years old. I worked in facilities and the officers there had acutally been there msince it opened including helped to build the track around the rec yard. The over all place was decent it had isseues but I survived.
I have not had the displeasure of having to go anywhere else so I can not tell you what to compare it with. But no matter where you do time, the fact that the keys never stop rattling, the doors never stop slamming, and the trucks keep circling, and the counts keep counting....prison is prison everywhere.

trying to find out anything on yazoo medium. I know you cant really request a certain prison and get it for sure, but were going to try since yazoo med. is pretty close to home. anyway just wondering is there much violence at yazoo or is it pretty low key. also does yazoo have airconditioning i know this probaly sounds stupid but my brother has alot of time to do and every little thing helps.
thanks

My brother-in-law is in Yazoo City Medium and he says he can't stand it, but I think it just depends. He doesn't like drama and he says the guards hassle him some because of the publicity of his case. He hasn't mentioned it not having AC, and I think that he would have by now. I will write and ask him some stuff, if you want.

Hmmmm. I know that they are on lockdown sometimes, but all of them are at times. He probably wouldn't tell me on his own if there was violence. My husband is incarcerated in Colorado and my brother-in-law always says that I have enough on my back. LOL. I will write him and ask tomorrow. When is your brother being sentenced?

jen-75, my husband was in Marianna and is now in yazoo medium. i remember him telling me Marianna is a much nicer and more relaxed than yazoo. he still requested to move to yazoo just so we could visit, but he would rather be in Marianna.

My brother-in-law is a little happier he says. He is working and that is good. He says it just seems like there is alot a tension on the yard sometimes, but I think that is everywhere.

My son is their for another year. He is dealing and making the most of it. His biggest complaint is the noise. He has started attending church services and has signed up for every class he can. He works out and runs every day. He says the busier he stays, the faster the time goes by. Im in Arkansas so I'm fortuanate to get to go see him every 3-4 weeks.

I have a fiance in Yazoo Low. He is in SHU right now but he is dealing. We have done 3 years and have 7 more to go. He hasnt had to hard of a time there whith the exception of the Female guards that like to cause trouble and the fact that its well..........PRISON. I mean we are doing as well as we can. We were both military before he got locked up I am stationed in overseas now and we have no way to talk on the phone so looking forward to gettin back to the states but 2 years left here. Kind of feels like deployments prepared us for this. HE was transfered from another place and prefers it at yazoo with the exeption he misses the radio stations in Cali LMAO We write on a constant basis and i send new pics every week. A lot of people started out saying they would be here for him writing him and be there when he got out well Im the only one now. They need support support that they can believe in. and someone that is going to be understanding to the fact that yes they will have the Woe is me letters and not going to be reminded on a constant basis they got themselves there they know that. THey dont need reminder. I remind him of the plans we have once he is out. We talk about the future even though his release is SOOOOO far away. Just my two cents. Sorry for the rant and babble
