Hello all, I am about to go through a general court martial and will most likely get about 2 years. I am going to get sent to Charelston Consolodated brig, I would like to know what to expect. I dont need to know about visitation, phones, mail, or Christmas; I want to know if theres an education program and what it consist of. Can I finish my degree, or go to heating and air conditioning school? What is the daily routine for the inmate? Will I work? Are the inmates treated like crap by coward gaurds? Does the inmate population mix or is it socially divided in some way, race or service? I am a prior Marine infantry man, now in the coast guard how would that work out? Can inmates work out with gym equipment? I am into art, painting, scetching will I be able to continue? How are inmates toward each other, is it like civilian jail/prison as far as respect, and there own rules/code? Will I stay in a squad bay or cell? I think that is about it, if there is something you think of and I have not listed please add. I do not need replies that include, "sorry I dont have an answer for these things but..." its just that reading along I have seen a whole lot of that type of answer to peoples questions. Thank you.

No problem, thank you though. I check every day, I have read post by you and found quite a few of them to be very uplifting. You are a positive person, thanks. I just want to finish my degree and work out, I dont care about anything else really. I just would like a little insight on the politics if they exist in the same way as civilian instatutions.

There are politics in all facilities. Like Mombert, I don't have info specific to the Charleston brig, but at the USDB the facility tries to maintain full segregation among the inmates - even going so far as to reassign inmates to rec groups even when there isn't a problem if they think the groupings are too racially divided. The military has a "mission" when it comes to incarceration and that is to rehabilitate and return to society (or active duty) productive individuals. There are work/training programs and educational programs. As far as finishing a degree program, that may be at your own expense and done via correspondence courses. Most I've found are online so if you don't have internet access (not available at USDB), good luck. If you aren't discharged, you can take CLEP courses at no charge. This info is sketchy and could be just the USDB's policies - not the RCF's and other facilities. Check with the Inmate Administration office at the brig and see if they have any information. Good luck to you.

I am so frustrated right now I just want to scream. I have been physically sick this evening...

My husband has been in the Norfolk brig for the past 6 weeks. I believe he was moved some time this week to Charleston. On one hand, I'll have my weekends free now and won't have to stress over childcare so I can visit. On the other hand, what do I have to look forward to now? I so looked forward to my weekends and seeing my husband. He was given a year, so at the latest he'll be out mid-October/mid-September. All the brig websites give a bunch of BS about how one of the best things for the prisoners and rehabilitation is visits. My husband has had visitors EVERY DAY he was allowed except for 2 since he's been in. This includes the federal holidays AND the Gerald Ford day. I just don't understand when they will be done kicking me... And I'm also having a pay issue and he was supposed to go to disbursing this week to resolve it - does this mean I can't pay my mortgage on the 15th?!

I'm sorry to ramble on, I just need to vent somewhere and I know you all at PTO will understand.

Thanks so much for listening/reading...
