Ok, this is my 1st time on here...my guy is at Allenwood USP. I haven't visited yet, but I'm on his visiting list. I was thinking of flying up there next month to surprise him on his birthday. I'm in TX & he's in PA, so the airfare is high...He's worth it, so I don't care about all of that - my thing is I've never visited before. Do I just show up? I'd hate to fly all the way up there & be denied a visit, b/c I didn't have an appointment or whatever. I just really don't know how it all works & don't want to let on that I am coming if I don't have to. So I thought I'd ask here instead. Any insight on Allenwood would be helpful. - Thanks in advance!

Not sure if anyone will be able to answer but you can take a look at

http://www.bop.gov/locations/institutions/alp/ALP_visit_hours.pdf

You may want to also call and verify visiting days/hours considering the distance you are traveling.

I visit allenwood atleast 2 times a month. You don't need an appointment. The nearest city to fly into is philly. (I think pittsburgh is actually closer, but it's all highways between philly and white deer.)

Visiting hours are from 8 - @230. If you get there, after 9 am, you have to wait until count is over to get in, usually it's around 1030 or 11 before they bring you up after that.

They ALWAYS use the ion scanner, sometimes on your clothes, back of the neck whatever. You can't bring in anything, but clear purse for change, dollar bills. I would atleast bring change in because once in awhile the coin changer is broke.

If you have any specific questions, you can pm me. I'll help all I can.
