My husband has finally saw a counselor and here is his break down. He has 59 points, his ERD is 6/1/2017 and his two choices are new Delano level 4 or tehachapi level 4.
Does anyone have any suggestions? how far is Tehachapi from LA? where is New Delano and how far from LA is that? I will check out their threads but I just wanted to know if anyone had any experiance with either prison...:thumbsup:

2017? Wow, sorry to hear. Hang in there. I think you have to wait and see where they send him. The first time my son was in prison they told him he would be going to either Solano, stay San Quentin or go to DVI. I looked them all up to see where they were. The next thing I knew I showed up for a visit and he had been moved in the night and was gone. They told me he was in Soledad. I had NO idea where it was or anything else. It was a VERY upsetting day for me and I drove all the way home crying. I was far from home in a prison waiting room when I heard the news. Just remember, try to call before any visits. Try to be patient and not count on him going to a certain prison. As it turned out for me Soledad was a very pretty drive from my home and I liked visiting him there very much. Families waiting outside to get in were friendly and it was an all around good experience. :)

Well Tehachapi is about the same distance from LA that Delano is just different directions. I don't know about the new Delano my man was at the old Delano. I will say the old Delano was cool and pretty muched relaxed. Hardly ever on lockdown. Tehachapi on the other hand is ok but they will be put on weather lockdown because it snows there. Also Delano will go on lockdown for fog but you are still allowed to visit but the way they bring your man is differently. Normally they'll walk them without cuffs or sometimes with cuffs but when it's fog they will shackle them. Only time you get fog is usually December and January.
To get to Delano you take the 5N to the 99N about 2.5 hours from LA depending on how fast you drive. Tehachapi you take the 14N to the 58W it is also 2-2.5 hours. They are bothy ok. I do think tehachapi goes on lockdown much more than Delano.

Thanks for the incoragement NancBee. we knew it would be about 10 years or so from now so that isnt a big deal really. Its the distance he will be from home. I am willing ot go anywhere but the distance will determine how often I go...

Unfortunately no, he is going to those two because of his points. He i believe is considered a level 4 so he will be MAX security but that isn't bad. He will go to whatever prison has the first opening.

Last i hear it is suppose to be with 90 days of being transferred to reception but it could vary.

Hubby was transfered about 3 weeks after classification. But this was Donovan and he went to a CCF. Just pray he doesn't end up in Pelican Bay or Calipatria!!

why would he end up there is they gave him the two choices of New delano or Tehachapi? if there is no gurantee that they would be sent to one of the two the give them choices of why would they give them the choice in the first place. I am getting frustrated with this system. I thought forsure I would be approved by thanksgiving and we have heard nothing from them. I keep calling and no getting the visiting sergeant I am real over this B/S with this system.

My husbands counselor said he would never go to a Fire Camp Prison and guess what? He was sent to Jamestown 3 1/2 hours away and put in the Gym but is not eligible to go to Fire Camp or work because of his mental status. He doesn't have much time to do but not being able to work to occupy his time makes it go by that much more slowly. Hopefully your husbands counselor will send him to his choices. Good Luck.

I keep reaeding about inmates' counselors. I haven't seen my fiancee yet (but I will Thursday-Yipee!) so I haven't been able to ask him. I'd appreciate it if someone would please tell me what the role of the counselor is. Are they bound by confidentiality (like there even is such a thing in prison...) or are they permitted to discuss any/all matters pertaining to an inmate freely with anyone who contacts them?

The counselor will ask the inmate which two institutions he would like to serve his time at, and make those recommendations to the CSR (Classification Service Representative), who will actually endorse him to the facility to which he will be sent. Unfortunately with the overcrowding in CDCR, that will proably be to the first available bed at his level that becomes vacant, irregardless of the location.
Mainlined level 4 inmates will be Close custody, not Max custody. Max custody is only for inmates in Ad Seg.
The counselor can discuss anything with you that is public information. The one thing he can not discuss is the release date. You have to get that from the inmate. He also can not discuss any medical information.

I do not know why they would give him a choice of two places. They will send him to the first prison with an open bed no matter where it is. They will however try to keep him within so many miles of his family IF it is possible. Just don't be surprised IF they do send him to one of those other places. It seems that the CDC tries to get them as far away as possible to make it harder for their family to see them. I really hope he does go to Delano or Tehachapi, but I just want you to be prepared for the worse.

Damn yall just stomped all over my daydreams of him being close to home. I mean damn, this whole situation sucks! I hope and pray a bed opens up close to home...

Try not to worry. Go back in this thread and read my older post to you. I was VERY upset when my son was shipped off to Soledad and did not even know where it was. It was NOT one of the places they had talked about him going to but as it turned out I liked going there and he liked being there....well sort of..it's still prison. The first time I went there all I could think about was the beautiful scenery and the nice peaceful drive. Of course it was just as the sun was coming up but I liked driving there with NO traffic. (careful, the CHP is up and watching and it is EASY to be going 85 without realizing it when there are NO other cars) I wish he was back there now instead of at DVI and I miss talking to the families out front while I waited. Hang in there and don't assume he just has to go to one of those two places. Also, level 4 is not always "MAX". There is a big level 4 at one of the prisons in Soledad and at many other prisons. AND many of the inmates USED to be level 4 but in time they have chances to move to level 3 or even level 2. Try not to worry. :)

Thanks Nancbee, I think I am just frustrated with everything. It took him awhile to see a counselor, I still haven't gotten approved for visiting, and Now this with the "unknown" about where he might be going...

hi all! it does really get frustrating dealing with the unknown. my husband was in wasco for 4 months and then was sent to san luis. i was excited because it would only be 2 hours or so from home. they must have realized how close to home he was and then shipped him to scc 2 months later. it took me 3 months to get approved for visting. i know just how frustrating it can be. nothing is ever easy or will ever go smooth. also its really hard to get through to anyone that will give you any info.thats why were all here, ive found out so much good info on pto. ive come to realize, it never goes smooth but usually works its self out. hang in there.no matter what, time still keeps moving.

Thanks so much Wifey, I am realizing how hard this 10 years might end up being for us. If it isn't one thing it's the other. I had planned on visiting him for thanksgiving and that aint happening. I am praying I will be able to see him for christmas.
