So the visits were canceled this weekend at Donovan due to an inmate testing positive fior TB. Does anyone have any information wether this will effect the Thanksgiving visits? Why is there no "official" route to obtaining this information ('cuase we all know that they never answer the phones, and when they do you're not likly to garner any useful information)?

I just got through and was told as of today, Thanksgiving Thursday will be allowing visits. Hopefully nothing changes.
Keep your fingers crossed ans say a prayer that nothing changes.

I just got through to the Visitation Dept. and was able to schedule a non-contact visit on Thanksgiving. I assume contact visits will also be allowed.
This will be my first visit, and although I don't know why, specifically, I am nervous about it. Any thoughts or guidance from anyone?
Thank you

Become familiar with the dress code. Bring something to change into incase what you are wearing is not appoved. Make sure you do not wear an underwire bra. Make sure you blouse is not shear or clingy, you do not want to bring attention to your curves. A lot of women wear oversized T-shirts, but if you do make sure it is not blank and it has something on it.i
Dress conservative
No Denim
No Camouflage
No Dark Blue Pants
No Dark/Forrest Green Pants
No Hats, Caps, or Hair pieces
No Sweats
No Sleeveless of Spaghetti strap tops
No Bright Orange or clothing that resemble inmates clothing
Must wear shoes or full strapped sandals
They say we are subject to search of car and personal property.
No hand delivered items (Cards/Letters)
You can only bring in 1 car key, some single dollar bills and loose quarters, but for the RC you cant use them too much.
Must bring State issued ID cards and original Birth Certificates if you are bringing your children (if appropriate.)
Visit is limited to 3 people, non-contact while in reception center it is ~ 1 hour. You to allow at least one hour prior to scheduled appointment for processing prior to the visit.
If you arrive before 7:30 wait in the car line and follow the lead car in. The regulars are very nice people and will help you learn the process as they helped me.

One more thing....no underwire bras. I actually had to go out and buy one without wire!

When you say no denim, does that mean no blue jeans or no jeans-period? As for the bra, I'm going shopping for one today, and boy-oh-boy, do I hate bra shopping! And yes, I understand there is a valid reason for prohibiting underwire bras, however, for those of us who are, for lack of a better term, "more-endowed", not wearing an underwire can attract more attention than ANY clingy or see-through blouse!
Thanks to all for the input. The really difficult part will be getting some sleep the night before my visit (even harder than buying a bra!). I still can't get over how nervous I am. How silly am I???

~ No demin period ~
I find each visit to be quite an emotional experience. I don't know if I am more anxious getting there or when it is over. But we gotta do it, because not matter what brought our loved one to be where they are, it is "temporarily" and they are OUR LOVED ONE through thick and thin!

I just called to confirm visitation status for tomorrow and was told No Visits will be allowed this week-end, not even for Thanksgiving. Due to TB...still.
