My husband is trying to get his military papers and his discharge papers and has been told it is lost. He is dealing with Fort Bragg in NC. and is getting a complete run around. They took his I.D. due to it expired and now can't get into see the judge advocates office. He has been sent from this office to this # and knowone has done anything to help. Please can someone tell me where we are to go to get his papers.

There used to be a central records depository. For some reason, it seems like it was in Missouri? Contact the VA office near you. They should have info on where to get your DD-214, etc. Good Luck!

I think he has to get his DD 214 on the last Post that he was discharged in. The hard part is if they will let him in, try if he can get a visitors pass. I don't know if they will release his 201 file. My hubby got a DD 214 only not his file. But in the army, if your DD214 was lost you will have a hard time finding it. Check St. Louis, MO office if they have a copy, they should have bec. they release 4 copies and 1 goes to them but they only keep it in certain time. Good luck

Go to your Congressman's local office, see a casework and explain the situation. Your husband will need proof of identity and have to sign a Privacy Act release. They can get it in a matter of weeks.

I was involved in records management for over a dozen years in the Air Force. Your husband's discharge record is on file in multiple places, including the military service he was in, the VA and the National Archives.

He needs to be VERY careful. If he never received his discharge papers then he is not considered released from duty.

If they lost them, they could easily reprint some new ones. It's on them, not him.

I know some people who got court martialed before they got their dishcarge papers. One I know got grabbed just right before he had it in his hands and ended up getting 12 years.
Some people use up their leave before getting dishcarged. I have heard about the MPs grabbing them even though the DD214 was in the mail, tey had not yet received it and thus grabbed them anyway. Court marshalled also.
