I haven't been to Gowanda since the early 80's so I'm not much help, but I'm sure some of the New York people will be able to help you.

My friend was in Gowanda for 7 months. Very long processing times, it has taken up to two hoursto get into the visiting area and seated with my friend. Lots of delayed mail, visiting areas ok, very strict about what they let through in packages and what they don't.

Fiance was in Gowanda for 8 months. Visited quite a few times. Hated getting in. If a bus gets there, forget it. When you grab the forms to fill out there are numbers on them and that's how they take you in (ex. 1-10, 11-20, etc). Just pray for a low number or you could wait awhile. Packages are crazy. They let them have cans of soups, cookies, cans of vegetables, lots of junk as long as it is sealed. As for personal products, nothing can contain alcohol. Most deodorants do, so good luck. I have the list somewhere of what you can and cannot send/bring. They allow 2 packages a months or 35 pounds (if I remember right).

i am the QUEEN of Gowanada info, I have been going there for what seems like forever!!
But yes, pray that u get there before the buses (theres like 3) and they use a number system so if u get like a high number 50 and beyond, forget about it!! u wont be in till like 10 or later. the processor is a nice guy but slowwww as a damn turtle.
