Hey guys Im new here but anyways..My brother has been locked up a little over a year..My parents dont tell me everything about whats going on with him..He's in MDC Brooklyn..I have heard that its a jail for someone who hasnt done something really bad..I also heard its more like a program but my question is why has he been there so long??.. He always tells me I see u soon but its been a year.. My other question is..How long can u serve here?? Example in Rikers Island you can only be there for a year or so..How about here??

Is your brother awaiting trial? Also from my experience at Riker's Island you can be there much longer than a year if you are fighting your case or awaiting trial. Once you are sentenced you can only do time at Riker's if your sentence is a year or less anything more they will send him upstate.

Brooklyn MDC is a Federal Detention Center. The MDC stands for Metropolitan Detention Center and it's sort of a Federal holding facility for many who are awaiting trial/setencing or to be sent to their next facility.

We won't be able to tell you if your brother did something bad or not since the BOP website does not list what an inmate has been charged with. I suggest you ask him or your parents to be straight with you. I'm not sure what this issue is as to why they seem to be witholding information. Perhaps its due to your age (if you're young) I don't know if you are or not or they may be trying to protect your feelings. Only they know.

We can't answer the question as to the amount of time that he'll be there either. It depends on his circumstances. I hope this helps you a little but as I said previously... ask your family to be honest with you.

he is either awaiting trial or waiting to take a plea, or he has been sentenced and has a sentence somewhere in the area of 2-4 yrs but his lawyer may have asked that he be allowed to serve his sentence at the MDC, which is close to home for him (assuming your family lives in the new york area). in any even, the MDC is definitely not a program facility; it is a federal detention prison with inmates whose offenses are a range of things that run from fraud to murder. i agree with diceyswife, the best way to find out from your loved one what's going on is to ask him to be honest with you and let you know. good luck w/ everything.

Well I spoke to my Mom and she was kind of unsure of what to say apparently they haven't said anything to me because my brother hasnt told them everything..We think it was fraud because he got arrested under someone else's name and now they have him under his real name..He claims that they have the wrong guy and that they are wrongfully accusing him but he won't say of what. So I'm waiting to get a letter so I could ask him myself.

Momma Ann, she already knows where he is and how to write him. She was looking for information on how she could find out what he was charged with. Unfortunately she can't find out from anyone except her brother since the BOP does not provide the info as to what an inmate has been charged with.
