View Full Version : Going to visit inmate at Morgantown
micurn 10-26-2006, 07:10 PM HI, new here, it was nice to find this place. We're all here for a reason. I'm going this weekend with my children to see my husband. What should I expect? Is there anything I need to tell the kids (11 & 8 )? Do I need to go early also? I'd like to find a way to see how long he will be in there. He was sentenced for 24 months and a day. Any information is greatly appreciated.
BabyBooWV 10-27-2006, 08:32 PM Hey girl welcome. Since you guys are just starting out you should check out the FCI Morgantown Part II Forum.
I am going down tomorrow 10-28-06 also. You aren't allowed on the grounds until 8. Then you will go into the main doors and fill out a paper that will want to know your name your kids name, your man's name, the car your driving, and your license plate number. You will sit that paper in a tray and wait for them to call his name. When they call his name you will go up and get the paper and stand in line. Once you get up to the front of the line you will enter the visiting room, where they will take you I.D. and you will sign in in a book. They will then call the inmate over the pa system. You can then go find a seat where ever you like. You can go get things out of the vending machines. I usually take about 15 or 20 dollars with me. It has to be in some typre of clear bag, rather it be a ziploc or a clear purse. You will then wait for him to come up to the vsiting room. When he comes in you can meet him and give him a hug and a kiss. I usually take awhile. You can then sit and visit. There is a place where the kids and inmates can go to play. You can stay until 3pm or if you want to leave earlier that's fine too.
If you have any questions please let me know I would be happy to help you. My man has been down there for almost 5 years now.
BabyBooWV 10-27-2006, 08:48 PM Oh yeah Make sure you post when you get back from your visit and let us know how it went. Wow I just noticed that you are coming all the way from North Carolina, you are allowed to visit on Saturdays and Sundays both, so if you want to spend the night Saturday night and go back on Sunday you are allowed. The econolodge is the best place to stay, it is only like 2 miles from the prison and if you tell them you are visiting an inmate they give you a discount. I thought my hour and half drive down was bad. lolol
micurn 10-30-2006, 08:16 PM Thank you for responding. The visit went well. It was a hell of a drive though...6hrs. There has got to be a shorter way there. We ended up staying at the Ramada inn, was about $60, is the econo cheaper? That is with the discount and free breakfast. We did visit Friday and a few hours Saturday. It was good to see him though. The kids handled it just fine. We occupied them with the vending machines. The hardest part is saying goodbye and unfortunately for us the drive up there. We can't come every weekend but we will try at least once a month and only Friday and a short visit Sat since I work weekends. Again, thank you for the information. It's nice to know you aren't the only one going through this and people that will not only understand but not judge you either.
kintml2u 10-31-2006, 04:00 AM micurn...glad your visit went well! You surely are not alone...the hardest part for me is leaving then having to drive that long distance home (11 hours for me) knowing it will be a minute before I get back! The trip there never seems as bad...it's like searching for the gold at the end of the rainbow, you know it's a good thing at that end! :D
jackiegeorgia 10-31-2006, 07:02 AM I was just wanting to know what you can wear to a visit. I saw it said all shirts tucked in and belted?? Can I wear a big sweatshirt and jeans or does everything have to be tucked in? I don't think I even own a belt:) Just wondering if that is ok. I do not own any really baggy jeans but will wear the baggiest I have. Have you ever seen anyone sent out for jeans?? Thanks a bunch!! Jackie
micurn 10-31-2006, 07:48 AM Everyone there seemed pretty casual. I saw women there with jeans and boots. Just make sure you don't have anything provocative. I saw one of the female guards (don't know what you call them) comment on a woman's shirt being too low cut and she had to put on her jacket but other than that, it was casual. Hope that helps.

jackie...was that for prisoners or visitors? Prisoners have strict rules of how there appearance is to be during a visit. They have to have their shirts tucked in, have to have a belt on and have to keep all buttons besides the top one buttoned.
I've never heard of rules like that for the visitors. Not saying...that it wouldn't be the case.
chucks girl 11-01-2006, 07:25 AM Hi everyone I,m new to this site. My husband is in Morgantown. My four kids and I haven't seen him since June 23. We live in Gardner, Massachusetts and it's over a 10 hour drive for us. With only my income it doesn't look like we will get to visit him while he is there. He is suppose to be released in April 2007. He calls twice a week and it's so nice to hear his voice. He has adjusted well there and actually has someone there he met that is from our home town so that really has helped him. I dread the holidays coming it's going to be really lonely for the kids and myself.
BabyBooWV 11-01-2006, 03:04 PM chucks girl,
I am glad that you found us. PTO will get you through some of the hard times.
I hope everyone is doing will.
 hey everyone, my name is kita and my man has been at morgantown since feb. and i get my first visit on Nov. 4. I cant wait to see him and I just wanted to take time out to thank everyone for all of their information that everybody posted especially babyboo, maybe we will see each other this weekend girl:thumbsup:
BabyBooWV 11-15-2006, 03:15 PM I hope that everything went great at the visit. We will have to meet up if you go before Dec 19th. First visits are the hardest I think because you aren't only dealing with seeing him, but you don't know what to expect.
I always hated driving my hour and half but i guess compare to you ladies that isn't crap. I have alot of back problems since my car accident in March, I couldn't imagine driving that long and then sitting down there for 8 hours then getting back in the car. My trip is hard on me I can't imagine. I know we were lucky that he got senteced at the place where we requested but i never knew how lucky.
And yes girls you have to have your shirt tucked in unless it is a sweater or sweatshirt. They are referring to t-shirts and fitted shirts.
Hello everyone,
I GOT MY FIRST VISIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everything was great. The whole family got to go and I know that meant alot to him to get to see his kids, his mom, his sister, and me. The hardest part of all was getting in the car and leaving without him coming too but besides that the visit was wonderful. I know I look foward to many more. Ladies thanks for everything and all your information was very helpful. I fill you in on the next visit too.
BabyBooWV 11-29-2006, 05:09 AM I am very glad to hear you guys enjoyed your first visit. Were you surprised to see what the compound looked like? I know I was, I was expecting more of a prison like setting instead of no gates or fences.
Well I hope everyone is enjoying the holidays as much as you can. I don't know about anyone else but I ate entirely way to much turkey and stuffing on Thanksgiving.
yeah i was totally shocked when we drove up. I actually saw some inmates walking to the units outside. It made me feel good though, i mean they are already locked up at least they dont cage them like animals. morgantown doesnt seem so bad and he likes it way better than oklahoma. how was everybodys holiday? This time of the year is always depressing for me, most peolple gain weight but i lose it. i guess it gets better.:shake:
alvarez's 4ever 12-03-2006, 05:10 PM Hi everyone, I am new to this. My fiance is in Morgantown and I am looking for someone to ride with me. I am in North Carolina. I have only been 1 time to see him since he has been there. Any help?
jackiegeorgia 12-03-2006, 06:35 PM I went to my first visit and it went better than I thought. They had a problem with the heat though and it was like a sauna. Anyway, he looked great which was a relief to me. Thanks BabyBoo for all of you kind words and advice. You really have helped a lot of people here. Your man is coming home soon? In the next few weeks if I remeber correctly? How are you feeling? I hope well. Thanks again to everyone!

OFF2FEDPRISON 12-14-2006, 12:35 PM Ladies:
My name is Dan and I have beeon on PTO since about June 2006...this site has been wonderful and a wealth of knowledge...Unfortunately, I have to turn my name, email, posts, etc. over to my girlfriend Kim....You see, I have been waiting over 2.5 years for my case to come to the point it is now...I got a letter 3 days ago telling me to self-surrender to FCI Morgantown on Tuesday, December 26th, 2006...that is in 12 days....Ouch! I knew it was coming but reality sucks! To look on the positive side, the sooner I start, the sooner I can get home (30 month sentence)...
Just wanted to say, thanks for all the great posts, I am sure this site and you gals will be great for my gal and some of you have already reached out to us both (i.e. your men are going to try and find me, introduce themselves, etc.)...with the email thing, I know contact has become much more frequent and easier.
Take Care, Have a Safe Holiday, My Prayers are with you all and I will have Kim keep you posted....
Regards,
Dan B.
