would you say something?
would you leave it be?

My daughter is blk rican asain native american italian and white. She got her real dose of racism today and she is only 2 she didnt really understand it but ot hurt me in my soul I am mixed and i felt racism every day of my life from both side blk and white. This mexican lil girl family lives next door to us they always used to play then today the mother sent the older one out to get the lil one and we over heard the motehr tell the lil girl we dont play with blk kids. My daughter was crying not because of the racism but because she wanted to play with the lil girl. Its hard to explain to a 2 year old why the lil girl cant play with her. It hurts me in my heart and my soul to see it i mean i have seen it felt it but its different when its your child.

I would bring it up to your neighbors attention that kids will be kids, and don't judge other children unless ADULTS show racism, and so they mimick...ESPECIALLY if it's their parents!! Sometimes people are just ignorant and can't get past the "color"....I can't beleive that your neighbor did that!!! I hope your daughter doesn't have to deal with this again.

My daughter is mixed also and her fathers grandmother is prejudice against her. Im not real sure why, but she is always saying how bad she is and always yelling at her and whenever one of the kids do something, she gets blamed first. Its very hurtful and I try to avoid this lady because of it.

seriously, people never cease to shock me with their blatant ignorance. I am starting to hate the human race more and more everyday.

i would have confronted the neighbor to let her know her comment was heard. Sorry your daughter had to be subjected to that. some people will never let go and they are the ones that are losing out on some great friendships and life lessons.

I would have spoken to the neighbor and informed her in a civil manner that i heard what she said and that she was totally out of line and i would ask her how would she feel if someone said those things about her kids?

Give your daughter a hug and let her know that she is beautiful

That's horrible! But you can't stop people from being small minded & racist. Just be glad you overheard, so you know where you stand. Most of the time, you never know, b/c these cowards are nicey-nice to your face. You don't want your daughter around people like that anyway!

OMG!! That is HORRIBLE.. I am a mother of 4 kids and my oldest is 13 going to be 14 in a few months. Her BEST FRIEND is "mixed" and she is the sweetest child, sometimes a little unruley but hey that is a teenager for you. I have taken her places with us before and I am telling you what the stares I get cause she calls me MOM is outrageous! Just makes me sick! The thing I always have told my kids is that god made us all "EQUAL" you cut a white person the bleed red, you cut a person of another Race and they bleed the same color WE ARE ALL HUMAN AND GODS CHILDREN.

from my own experiences (unfortunately quite a lot :(

-down south they are more straight up and tell you directly
-up north they talk behind your back

I'm from the south and white. I always thought racism was a blight of the white folk and never really understood any particular form of prejudism. But back home the people who were bigots were generally very obvious about it. It was easy for me and the crowd I ran with (artsy, musician, "freak"-types) to steer clear of them.

Since I have been in NYC I see that people of all shades and creeds can be very prejudiced, they just tend to be more subtle about expressing it and are harder to pin down.

I have only dated white women and I usually ignore the crap. Let it be I always got leers from people staring at me with my girlfriend she always thought it was because she was overweight but I think it was the race thing guaranteed!

Well im always the first one to say anything :) ... fair enough everyone is allowed their opinion, but i believe they should keep it to themselves. And if they cant be that respectful then i should be able to voice my opinion on their thoughts of us also..

You have a very ignorant neighbor.

It's one thing for them to be racist, but to teach it to their kids and your kid is awful.

I would tell them - and I don't think I would be nice at all about it.
the only way to fight & ever hope to stop their racism, is to hit it head on.

this is really sad... I never had growing up ppl different races around me, but when I moved, it was all mixed, I didnt care. I just wanted to learn more and more from each one of these different cultures... My husband is black, and that was shock for everyone, that I would marry someone not 'my race'. and all the racist look and comments I just try to ignore but its hard. its too much of it around... sad...
