View Full Version : Why are units in Parchman so bad?

Just curious if anyone would care to elaborate as to why these particular units are bad? I mean, I know they all have their issues, but is there specific reasons they're worse than others?

I have a pen-pal in Parchman in unit 32 and am just wondering what it's like. He's actually the son of a friend of my mom's from a loooong time ago, so I've never met him unless we did when we were little or something, but I'd love to know about some of this without having to ask him to rehash that sort of thing.

Also, while I'm on it, I saw somewhere in the MS forum that they can get holiday pkgs, and was wondering if he could, too, since he talks like he's locked down a lot. I know he gets to talk to other inmates so he's not always alone, but he can't have a radio or watch t.v. or anything, so...just wondering...

Thanks much!

Check this site for information on what can be sent to your inmate.

I am sorry I have not yet answered your qustions fully - in short - Parchman is in the delta - which is hot in the summer and freezing in the winter.

You have mosquitoes the size of humingbirds and many - not all - guards who do not care.

Add all of that to bad/no food, lack of medical care, older buldings which have spiders or snakes in them - that is why it is soo bad.

Prison is what you make it to be - I tried to find the silver lining in the situation and things went better off for me - hope this info helps you some

CJ9600, I went to the link that you provided and for the life of me cannot figure out how to be able to send anything. Where do you go to register your email address and password if you are a first time user?

Hi mama Kat,
click on the link that Cj9600 left; to the left you will see a spot that says shop now; on the next page, scroll down to Mississippi Holiday Program click on that, then use the drop down to find Mississippi State Penitentiary, enter, then to the left you will see a link to enter numbers if you already have a list; if not click on food and snacks. Each inmate can have up to $100 combined orders. Happy shopping.

One more question, if I do order and he is in lockdown will he be able to receive it or not?

You may want to call the phone number listed for this program on the website or email them to double check. I would do it tomorrow though or the next day as it ends the 31st.

Mama Kat, this link should take you directly to the page to order for Mississippi. http://www.accesscatalog.com/shop/login.htm?ProgramID=46. Near the bottom of that page, you will select the facility "Mississippi State Penitentiary - Parchman" and click enter. Once you get to the next page, look on the left side and click on "Food & Snacks". When you click on that, you will have a list of food categories. You can open each one of those and view the different things that are offered. If you have a credit card, you can place your order online. If not, you can mail it in, or write down the order numbers and place it by phone.

If you have any more question or need any help, let me know.

Oops, looks like I took too long to answer. Everyone else seems to have it covered.

I have not seen restricitons anywhere and I know he can receive mail and books etc, so I would assume yes.
